Creating a group for in sync content but with individual volume control

I am a, or should I say I was a, font SONOS user. I switched over to Bluesound NODE2i for my HIFI installation and a FLEX mini 2i for in the kitchen. I have to set the NODE2i on FIXED level as I control volume from my external amplifier. As with SONOS, I was expecting the FLEX to do similar. Put both in a group to share same content and have them set volume individual.
But as I have set the NODE on FIXED, it automatically counts for the FLEX too? This behavior blocks me now from expanding Bluesound through my house as I have no means to set volume in other rooms.

Am I doing something wrong?

  Hi Albert, it is possible to change volume on your Flex in the controller.
  
  If you add/group the Node2i to your Flex you can control volume with the volume buttons on your phone or controller.

  
  If you add/group Flex to your Node2i you can't control volume with the volume buttons on your phone or controller (because of the fixed volume).
  
  Both  players can be controlled using the volume slider any way you group them.
