BlueOS 2i MDC - firm interrupts while streaming over bluetooth aptx
AnsweredHello folks
Setup
- NAD C 368 (Main V1.71, VFD V1.22, BT V1.26, most recent)
- BlueOS 2i MDC (BlueOS Firmware 3.8.13, most recent)
- Huawei P30 Pro (EMUI 10.0.0.195, most recent)
Issue
Playing back music over Bluetooth with aptx enabled while being connected to the receiver of the MDC module causes firm interrupts, comparable as you would skip the track for half a second or so.
In most cases this behavior begins while playing the second or third track after the initial connection to the BT-receiver. From that point on the skips occur reproducible every 35 - 40 seconds - no matter what kind of track is played after.
Further notes
- While being connected to the BT-receiver of the NAD C 368 unit with aptx enabled there are no issues like that/at all (so I assume that the BT stuff on my Huawei P30 Pro works fine at all and there are no other signals which cause the distortion, otherwise we would see similar issues here as well).
- All tracks are stored locally on the device, so the internet connection should not be part of the issue.
- For playback I am using the Apple Music App (V3.2.2, most recent).
- I have tested and reproduced this behavior over a couple of weeks no - so no "quick shots".
In case you need further information please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi Timo
Our good friends down the hall at NAD would suggest pairing your source not with the BluOS MDC but with the NAD C368 chassis itself. check out Pg 17 of the C368 manual regarding Bluetooth (Sink) - and don't worry you are still getting AptX.

Hi Tony
Thanks for your reply.
As I mentioned in my post I've already connected my source (Huawei P30 Pro) to the BT-receiver of the NAD 368 itself with aptx enabled and everything works flawlessly.
For me personally the sound quality is better while being connected to the BT-receiver of the BluOS MDC compared to the BT-receiver of the NAD 368. So actually I want to use the BT-receiver of the MDC module.
But if I understand you correct you recommend me to not use the BT-receiver of the BluOS MDC - but why? Are there any known issues with connections while aptx is enabled? Is it a hard- or a software issue? If latter: are there any fixes planned for further firmware updates?
Thanks again in advance for your reply!
Best regards
Timo

No known issues - we just found it to be a better and easier consumer experience. In the C368/88 they have Bluetooth streaming capabilities but not all NAD chassis that support the BluOS MDC have that - why it's a double implementation in your case. But admittedly, go with what your ears think is best. Make sure you have connected the BluOS MDC BT Antenna - try angling it see if that improves reception...

In general the reception while being connected to the BT receiver of the BluOS MDC is good.
For me it's suspicious that after two or three tracks played reproducible(!) every 35-40 seconds the firm interruption occurs.
Assumed that there are any signals which interfere the reception I suppose the firm interruptions would occur more irregularly and not easy reproducible- don't you think so?
And why are there are no interruptions while being connected to the BT receiver of the NAD C 368 itself? The BT receiver is only a couple of inches away from the BT reveicer of the BluOS MDC, as so is the BT antenna. The interruptions must occur here as well (assumed the issues is not related to the BluOS MDC module respectively its BT receiver).
Both the BT antenna of the NAD C 368 and the one of the BluOS MDC are installed properly - I've checked this a couple of times.

I would try reproducing the issue with a different BT Source such as another phone or tablet. Preferably by a different manufacturer. If the problem persists, please select Help, Send Support Request in your BluOS App so our Support Crew may see the log file and investigate further. If it does not appear using that other device, contact Huawei.
