RCA cable upgrade?

I have the Node2i connected to my pre-amp using the supplied RCA cables. I also have some thicker gauge/ higher quality cables available. I'm wondering if there's any benefit or downside to using them?

  The sound part I can figure out. I was more questioning whether putting a a larger cable on it would have some negative impact or some measurable improvement to the equipment .
