    Hello Giorgio,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. I am unsure if there are any limitations within the BluOS software that would prevent the use of multi tagging within the ID3 metadata. With that being said, I will bring this to the attention of our development team for their consideration to see if we can work around this in a future firmware update.

    Regards,
    Wesley P.

Having been steered to this from Squeezeboxes I am loving it but frustrated by the lack of multi-values for tags. I have a massive FLAC collection with many songs having the name of a backing vocalist or guest singer so they are not included with the main artist listing. Frustrating!

+1 on getting this feature. This would be a great enhancement to bluesound. I love the platform but for my classical music collection I have multiple fields in the artists tag (orchestra, individual performer, conductor), bluesound is only taking the first value to include in the artist list...

Having used Squeezeboxes for the last 15 years, I decided to take an exploratory step into the BluOS system and bought myself a Bluesound Pulse Mini 2i.  It took me a few days to get the BluOS app to see my Synology NAS.  I was very excited when it finally started indexing, but after an hour I started browsing to notice the number of genres had gone from 15 to 150 ...

My request may be slightly different.  I only use each tag once and attribute one or multiple values to that tag using the '¬' symbol as delimiter between the multiple values.

I am unlikely to replace my remaining 7 Squeezeboxes before support for multi-value tagging is introduced.

Actually, you should be using a semi-colon so you can then enter multiple entries into a single tag then search on those. This is proper meta-tagging using ID3 standards, of which we follow.

I only use each tag once and separate values with semi-colon - this is not interpreted as multiple values - please see the screenshot.

I believe the multivalue delimiter depends of the software you are using for tagging. I use YATE in my mac and I can specify the delimiter to use (I use ;;;)

Thank you Tony, Dave and Adolfo.

Can someone recommend an easy way to automatically change the delimiter from '¬' to a semi-colon for all tracks in my 24,000 song library?

    Thanks in advance!

Adolfo - are you saying that BlueSounds interprets ;;; as a delimiter and takes the values each side of it as separate tags for the library?

  • Dave Kibble

Sean - it's possible but until it's confirmed that multi-values are interpreted by the library scanner correctly, not worth the investment!

Dave, for sure in the case of the blueOS of my node 2i controlled via the iPhone application (as I stated in the first post) in tags with multi values the library shows (and finds with the search function) only the first of multiple values. Try placing a space char in between the semicolon with a tag editor and you will see disappear a lot of genres.

I have both mp3, that has id3 tagging structure, and most of all FLAC files, that have vorbis comment tagging structure. As Adolf wrote, the semicolon is only how the editing or library software shows the separation between values of the same tag.

I'm really looking forward to have this update of the library management.

Dave - agree with Giorgio's explanation, the first of the multiple values is the only one that shows in the library. I am also looking forward for an update to the library management.

thanks for the clarification guys - let's hope!

I am new to BluOS, as others coming from squeezebox. I have the same issue and the multi-value tags seems to be a must have feature. In particular for classical music lovers.

I hope that it will happen ! Thanks to listen to us.

It would be probably solving all issues addressed here, if the standardized genre tag would be recognized by the Bluesound firmware as a multi-value tag with a specified separator like ";". So we can find an album with the value "Indie Rock;Pop Punk" in the ui genre filter under "Indie Rock" and "Pop Punk".

Can someone say if this will be possible at any time?

    As Tony sayed above:

Actually, you should be using a semi-colon so you can then enter multiple entries into a single tag then search on those. This is proper meta-tagging using ID3 standards, of which we follow.

and everone in this thread says it does not work, i think we are left be alone, again.

I am quite flabbergasted that nothing is happening regarding this issue. BluOS devices are not cheap and quite popular. You guys can certainly develop this feature if there is a will. But there is none apparently. Quite amazing to think that Loigtech was able to do it in the squeezebox twenty years ago (you could even choose the string that you wanted to separate your artists) but that noone at BluOS can/want to do it.

Another 3 months, still nothing... It seems that no one at BluOS cares about this issue. Sad.

    As Florian said above:

If the standardized genre tag would be recognized by the Bluesound firmware as a multi-value tag with a specified separator like ";". So we can find an album with the value "Indie Rock;Pop Punk" in the ui genre filter under "Indie Rock" and "Pop Punk".

This will be great. So been a long time the BluOS still not support multi genre tagging?

bumping this thread to complain that this still is a problem. This is a standard feature in vorbis tags for FLAC, and is sorely missed when using BluOS to do deep searches into my collection. We need this for artist, album artist and genre tags at minimum (The implementation of "Composer" and "Performer" tags would also be nice, but so would the implementation for custom vorbis tag support)

So Bluesound Crew, how does it look here?

I think a lot of us would look forward to the Bluesound Indexing handling multiple Tag Values, like the official Vorbis comment standard actually "encourages" you to do so:

"Field names are not required to be unique (occur once) within a comment header. As an example, assume a track was recorded by three well know artists; the following is permissible, and encouraged"

That would finally make the Genre Filtering really useful. Currently it's nice, but as only the first value of each tag it's indexed it doesn't really help you at all, because most artists don't "belong" to only one Genre.

I wanted no longer to wait for this. Installed max2play with Logitech Media Server on a Raspberry Pi with Hifiberry dac+dsp. Now i have Multitags and Roomcorrection. Additional 180€ but it was worth it for me.

Hey, i am new to bluos and i am really flabbergasted that this basic feature is not available.

Yes Hoplie, so are we all.🙄

For this reason I sold my Bluesound Node 7 months ago. Now I have a Raspberry Pi with Hifiberry DAC running Picoreplayer as a software solution. I've never been so happy before.

Looks like this feature is still unavailable on bluOs 4.x

sad to see this wasn't implemented in BluOS 4, especially because this is supported in the vorbis/flac tag standard. Users here would appreciate it the bluOS team would spend some time working on QoL updates to personal music collection features instead of trying to add every streaming service under the sun.

I would REALLY appreciate this feature finally being implemented in BluOS 4.x.

A lot of people are waiting for this patiently for several years now.

This is a feature I am sorely missing as well, and one that will eventually make me switch from BluOS. Would strongly encourage the BluOS developers to prioritise the implementation of multiple value tag support as soon as possible.

Either the support team don't understand why this feature is important or the company just does not care about its existing customers! It's become more than frustrating and I would have bought at least two more players if it had this simple-to-implement feature but I can't access my huge music collection how I want to. I'm looking for alternatives - any suggestions?
