Please just say that this won't work - macOS Catalina and Local/Network sharing...
AnsweredOkay, I’m going to post this here with the hope that it prevents someone else from finding out the hard way that this problem exists. How frustrating, and it’s not all BluSound's fault.
I recently bought an NAD M10 for the purposes of streaming music sources, and wirelessly accessing the music stored on my MacBook Pro. With the update to macOS Catalina I am no longer able to access my MacBook Pro using either the “Local” or “Network” share function inside the BluOS app. How frustrating.
I’ve been “speaking” (email) back-and-forth at least 5 times with a support person at BluSound and still cannot get this to work. A while ago in our email thread he suggested that I try the IP address of the Mac, which I did, and it didn’t work. He’s now suggesting that I try it again…
As much as I appreciate his attempts to help me, this is getting ridiculous. I have tried everything that he has suggested and nothing works. I just wish that he would admit to the fact that this isn’t going to work. Apparently it’s not entirely BluOS’s fault, it seems to have something to do with a security function that Apple has added and that they have removed support for the SMB call/ routine in the newest OS update. I understand that for him to say this key function of their platform, and one that I bought the unit explicitly to do, is not working makes one question whether or not they should buy the device in the first place. Basically, since we have gone back and forth on this email thread for 5 days I believe the opportunity for me to return this device has passed. I will be looking into this.
Does anyone have an alternative to this problem that they could share please? As much as I don’t want to, I might need to find a way to move/ duplicate all of my music from my Mac and put it onto an external drive that I then physically attach to the NAD M10.
Does anyone have a suggestion on the type of external I should buy? I’m assuming that an SSD will work?
Thanks very much,
Rob

Hi Rob
Please continue to work with Support. They will be happy to assist you.
I am on Catalina myself and network sharing works fine. AirPlay on MacBooks may be a little off but work with Apple to resolve those.

Thanks Tony, I'm glad to hear that you have this working fine, but I still do not.
It's interesting, this problem that I have is due to a product that your company makes in order to work with Apple devices and you are asking me to work with Apple to resolve this issue.
That sounds like a lame recommendation to me. I would think it in your interest to work with Apple to understand how to make your product work as you say it is capable of doing? I suspect I'm not the only person with this issue and it might be useful for you to know how to recommend that people fix this?
Just a thought...

Hi,
not absolutely shure and I have no direct solution, but I would bet the problem is that with Catalina SMBv1 support was disabled. So the question is, which SMB versions are suported by BluOS?
And after that, how to use a SMB share both systems can handle...0 -
Hi Rob
If you are having issues, please send us a log file by selecting Help, Send Support Request in the BluOS App so we can help troubleshoot.

I am having similar issues.
I have switched to Catalina recently and have discovered that I can no longer move music back and forth from my iMac to my NAS or to my Vault 2. The vault 2 will no longer accept anything that I try and put into it. After many years of really enjoying my Bluesound equipment (I have a Node 2, a Vault 2 and Pulse 2) I am now unable to move new music that isn't a CD rip to my system. When will you have a fix for this communication problem with Catalina???

Hi Wayne - we cannot fix it because Catalina made changes to how they access external devices - we can however reset your VAULT to resolve it. I am escalating this to our Support Crew who will be happy to resolve but will have to remote into your system to address.

Thank you Tony. I look forward to working with the support crew.

Hi Wayne,
Just a quick note to say that I hope they can fix this problem for you. Unfortunately, I'm still out of luck.
Best,
Rob

HI Rob - your issue is different - did you select Help, Send Support Request in the App so we may review your log file. If you have, great and I do apologise for the long wait as we have been backlogged. Due to the pandemic, our call volumes are very high as people are all home using their systems while in isolation.

i suggest use mobile HDD, because it's cheap. M10 only support FAT32/NTFS and USB2.0,so don't need to use SSD.

I'm having issues too. I have a Vault 2 and I'm sharing files from a Mac mini with Catalina 10.15.7. Updated the MacOS app to 3.12.1 and the BluOS to 3.12.13. It was working as expected for about a year, but OS updates appear to have made this not possible anymore.
I've been reading all of the threads related to this that I can find, but so far nothing has produced anything. I did get the default "music" folder to share at one point last night with all of the iTunes content, but that's not where I keep my hi-rez files. Anyway, that shared network folder eventually failed to stay populated in the library...it was working for an hour or so, then as I kept attempting to add other shared folders, it failed and said that it didn't exist. I kept thinking it was a sharing permission issue, but other posts suggest it's a different security protocol...it's way beyond my understanding, so if there's some kind of setting on the Vault that can get thing working again, let me know.

Hi Matt
Apple changed something in Big Sur regarding the Guest Account - we have seen some consumers having success using an ID and Password. Please see https://support1.bluesound.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360051317814 for details but contact Apple Support.
