Given the Pulse Soundbar 2i has pretty sophisticated hardware, including eARC and HDMI 2.1, is it possible to program the soundbar vía a future firmware update to be able to decode and downmix Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Atmos signals?
It seems there is a substantial benefit to higher resolution sound via Dolby Digital Plus (compared to normal Dolby Digital that the soundbar can currently decode), and it would be amazing to be able to have that play through our system.
We have an Apple TV 4K and LG C9 that allows native pass-through of high-quality lossless signals up to Dolby Atmos.
Currently, when the system detects that eARC is enabled, it tries to pass through an Atmos signal to the soundbar, but no sound comes out. Now, my workaround is to disable Dolby Atmos audio on my Apple TV, or disable eARC, or convert the Atmos signal at the TV into PCM signal the soundbar can decode.
I’m still learning how the technology works. It seems that the soundbar should be able to decode these kinds of signals and downmix into the appropriate audio channels at full resolution.
The hardware is all there, probably would only need a firmware update. What do you think?
