Flex is draining battery pack even in Vacation Mode
AnsweredHi Bluesound,
I own (among others) a Flex 2i, which I only use with a BP100 battery pack. When not listening, I tend to put my Flex in Vacation mode whilst leaving the BP100 attached, but not plugged to the mains.
I have noticed that even in Vacation mode, the battery pack seems to get empty after a while, as if the Flex was still draining on the battery even though in Vacation Mode (which I understand is as close as one gets to “off”). For example, if I put the Flex in Vacation Mode with the battery pack at roughly half-charge and leave it like that for 1-2 days, it will still drain the battery and won’t even “wake” anymore the next time I want to use it: I will need to plug it to the mains for a new charge cycle.
As this is quite different from the functioning of other batteries (such as on a smartphone or laptop, if I turn off my laptop with 50% battery life and do not use it for several days, the next time I’ll turn it on I will still have 50% battery life), I’m trying to assess if this is normal or if my equipment is faulty and I should lodge a support request?

Hi Tony,
Thank you and thanks to the Support Crew for the speedy reply, confirming this is normal product behaviour.
The Support Crew is advising me to unplug the battery pack when not using my Flex to improve power conservation. Can I ask for further advice elaborating on this, and I think this might be a good place to ask as it could prove useful to other Flex owners as well?
The battery pack user's manual strongly advises against leaving the battery attached to the Flex continuously while the Flex is plugged on the mains, as this results in a situation of continuous charge of the battery potentially leading to overheating of the pack and even fire hazard. This is the reason I only plug my Flex to the mains when I want to charge the battery pack.
Would Bluesound rather advise users to unplug the battery pack every time the Flex is not in use and re-attach only when one wishes to play the Flex? Won't the repeated unplugging/re-plugging of the battery pack end up damaging the connectors on the pack or on the Flex on the long run?

Hi Marc
As mentioned - disconnecting the battery will prolong the battery life - there is greater chance of the battery life being decreased by leaving it connected the probability of damage by repeated connection and disconnection.
