fixed volume into active speakers
AnsweredHI,
I have just received my bluesound node 2i and am using it with my tv into the optical input and coaxial out into a pair of meridian dsp5200.2 speakers.
when I first tried it, I had the volume on variable, but then tried fixed volume which sounded better.
could you advise which would be the best set up in my system, and advise if there are any technical difference between the volume options.

Fixed volume is volume output at 100% so it can be controller by an external source (such as the remote on your amp or active speakers)... We advise that using the volume control on your active speakers is probably more convenient so feel free to use that...
What sounds better? That's for your ears to decide...

How is the variable volumen control implemented in Node 2i?
Is it implemented in digital domain before DAC (here you will loose some resolution)?
Or is it an analog implementation after DAC (digitally controlled)?

Hi Max
There is zero lose in resolution

Ok.....so the variable volume control is considered "high-end".
Now I use a passive stepped attenuator and fixed output to connect direct to power amps. I will try the variable output which will give me shorter signal path and hear how this sounds. It is also nice to be able to remote control the volumen!
