OK, this is very odd indeed...
I have a Node 2i, which I use to listen to my collection of ~30,000 tracks stored on a Synology NAS box. The vast majority of these are Apple Lossless files ripped from my own CDs, but there are also some downloaded high-res FLAC files. Everything is tagged using Tag&Rename, and album art is stored as folder.jpg files in each album folder - there is no artwork in tags. I use the Android controller app on an Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.
This all works well, with one glitch.
I have three copies of the Peter Gabriel album "Scratch My Back" stored on the server. 1) is an ALAC rip from the standard CD version. 2) is a high-res FLAC download. And 3) is an ALAC download as part of the Bowers & Wilkins Society of Sound programme. These are tagged as follows:
1) Album "Scratch My Back"; Artist "Peter Gabriel"; Album Artist "Gabriel, Peter"
2) Album "Scratch My Back (FLAC)"; Artist "Peter Gabriel"; Album Artist "Gabriel, Peter"
3) Album "Scratch My Back"; Artist "Peter Gabriel"; Album Artist "B&W Society Of Sound"
I have set the Node to sort by Album Artist, so the first two of these appear as albums under "Gabriel, Peter", and the third appears under "B&W Society Of Sound" - that all works as expected.
The problem is the artwork.
The artwork for 2) is always shown correctly. BUT - the system will only ever show either the artwork for 1), OR the artwork for 3) - it will never show both. If I rebuild the index, at random it seems that either 1) shows its artwork file correctly in the browser, and 3) is shown as missing artwork, or 3) shows its artwork file correctly and 1) is shown as missing artwork. If I do another rebuild or reindex, sometimes the one which shows the art remains the same; sometimes it switches - but only one of them *ever* shows the artwork.
The artwork files for both are correct JPEGs, of the correct size and resolution; in fact the same artwork file is used in 1) and 2), and it always shows correctly in 2). The artwork for 3) is slightly different, in that it has the same basic picture, but with B&W SoS wording on it.
This seems a totally bizarre situation to me - the only thing I can think of is that perhaps something in the process whereby artwork is loaded in and cached while the index is rebuilt is confused by having two albums with identical album and artist, but different album artist and different artwork.
Interestingly, now I think about it, I have exactly the same situation with Gabriel's album "Passion" - three copies, one original CD, one high-res FLAC, one SoS download, but the artwork for all three is always shown - but the difference is that all three use exactly the same artwork file, as B&W never released special cover artwork for their version.
Has anyone seen this sort of behaviour before? Any suggestions as to how I might be able to fix it? (Other than to delete one or the other copies of the album?)
