Check with MP3 Tag and see what the Album Artist (AARTIST) Tag says compared to the Artist, though we should picking it up.

If problems persist send us your log file by selecting Help, Send Support Request and we will reach out to and ask for a sample data transfer to find out what is going.

After all, Maybe it's not too late to learn how to love and forget how to hate meta tags...

    ...sorry couldn't resist...

It does indeed depend on the accuracy of the Tags, I have found “missing” albums under “Unknown Artists,” or “Various Artists,” in the catalogue. This is something that can happen in iTunes too and is not unique to BluOS.

I'm getting some oddities now. I have been purchasing some import CDs that are giving the Vault a hard time. I just purchased this CD https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D54LFLH Lucky Man Emerson Lake and Palmer and disc 2 has 16 tracks and I believe is 73 minutes, or may go past 74 - I'm not sure.  My vault rips to about halfway through cut 15 and then spits out the CD with a rip-failed message.

I can rip the last two songs on my super cheap, external CD drive and get good sounding wav files from it, and then just plop them over onto the Vault, but right now they don't show up on the player.

I also purchased a Huey Lewis CD that has three discs and one of them ended up in Mixed. So I am just going to relabel it with MP3TAG.

I will play with MP3TAG (I've gotten good at using it) and see what is happening with Ozzy.

Also, how does the folder.jpg file work? Will the Vault read from the tags, or must there be a folder.jpg file with a square jpg in that folder?

One more question, and this is for ANYONE - but I have downloaded a half-dozen tag programs. Metatogger, tagscan, TigoTago and MP3TAG among them - does anyone know which ones work best with Vault?  I am pretty good with MP3TAG now, but if another program would do better I'm open to trying it.

    Thanks!

In answer to your question - AARTIST is blank - am I correct in assuming I need to update it to Ozzy Osbourne?

I'm going to try that... wish me luck.

Hmm, that was weird... I have three Ozzy albums. No More Tears, The Ozzman Cometh and Tribute.

No More Tears and Tribute had blank Album Artist fields

But The Ozzman Cometh had Ozzy Osbourne in the AARTIST field but it wasn't showing up. I went ahead and resaved it and we will see...

    Hi Tom

Please select Help, Send Support Request in the app so we can see the log file on Lucky Man and find out what happened. The log file will be attached automatically when you reach out through support that way.

So how does artwork work? Here's a KB which hopefully explain it to you; https://support1.bluesound.com/hc/en-us/articles/200271926

As for which tagger works best, well they should all theoretically work the same as we read standard ID3 tags...  I'm on a Mac most of the time so my personal preferences are (believe it or not) I use iTunes for MP3 content, TAG (By FiestyDog) for my FLAC (which will also do MP3s) and if I run in to any WAV files (which I avoid as there is no sonic benefit and tagging is tough) I use Kid3...  everyone here at The Support Crew though has their own preferences so please don't take my preferences as endorsements or recommendations...

...oh and don't forget to select Music Library, Reindex in your App Settings to update your changes..

Ok, question about re-indexing. I choose rebuild which I have assumed was more complete than reindex. Are the different and work together or is one more complete than the other?

I regret having chosen wav files now, I was ignorant of the disadvantages when I started.

I suppose worst case scenario I could copy the whole mess to a hard drive and then convert them to FLAC. God knows I'm not hauling all my CD's down to rip them again - LOL  I'm over 7,000 songs now and I'm starting to fill the gaps in my collection with new CD's. It has taken me weeks to get here.

Thank you for all your help.

I'll send you the help request. I have read through some of those logs and they are huge, but I didn't search them for anything yet. I wouldn't probably know what they meant anyway.

Rebuild deletes the old and creates everything anew from scratch. That being said, if you change external Album Artwork (folder.jpg) rather than embedded artwork, the music file time stamp doesn't change so you must Rebuild Artwork or remove and re-add the share.

That's okay, we have a team of 8+ Guys and Gal here who's job it is to stare at that log file and read it for you...

Forgive my ignorance, but what do you mean by "remove and re-add the share?"

P.S. I sent the help request thingamajig and hopefully did that right. I tried to explain it clearly there as well. Let me know if I did anything wrong or if you need more from me.  Thank you for all your help.

"but what do you mean by "remove and re-add the share?"

In Settings, Music Library, Network shares, remove the existing share. The Player will reindex and turn white. Once completed, go back in to Settings and add the share again...

Oh wait you're on a VAULT so that happens all auto-magically so you have to select Rebuild Index...

    Thanks,

I received a somewhat un-satisfying email from support today regarding my Help, Send Support Request from Jon P. It was the equivalent of "reboot your device and see if that works" fix that you always get when you call for support on anything computer related.

He basically asked me to download MP3TAG and try tagging the album to see if that works.

To be fair to him, I had somehow imagined you receiving it - or someone knowing about the discussion we have been having here, so I did not include as much information as I probably should have included. But he did have the diagnostics.txt file I sent.

He asked for my serial number and where I got it - (Amazon) and I provided that info.

I looked through the diagnostics.txt file and the only interesting thing I saw was that at some point it looks like Java was running out of memory at some point and using https://plumbr.io/outofmemoryerror/kill-process-or-sacrifice-child

I'm not a programmer though, so I don't know if that is significant or just standard.

I'll play around with the various tagging programs and see if I can get Ozzy to show up as an artist. Oddly, Jon sent me an image that seemed to suggest adding Ozzy Osborne to the COMPOSER tag, maybe I misunderstood. But I'll try that...

    Thanks for your continued help.
