    Hi Tom

If we ripped it - the track is fine. We rip slowly taking a bit for bit transfer. It's why it takes on average 15 minutes+ to rip a CD.

Listen to the final track of the CD and you will hear it in 16/44.1 - or we would have ejected the CD. By the way you aren't the first consumer I have heard of who has seen this. I can even vouch for it as it happened to me 7 years ago when beta testing the original VAULT.

As for the track selection portion. I will pass it along again for future consideration.

I will say that I was impressed that it ripped. When I put it in, I wasn't expecting it to rip the last cut because it was literally missing some of the paint on the back side and I could see clear through it. I suppose that the actual aluminum data was still there, or maybe it was beyond the data for that track, but I was pleasantly surprised that it was ripped.

I will give it a listen and see - I trust that you are correct though.

I do have a question, and I thought that I had seen this before but my searches aren't turning it up. When I put a CD in that has been ripped before, does it overwrite the old CD? Or what happens when you do that?

Also, I have several 24k gold reference master CD's or whatever they are called. I realize that these have no magic to them, but being gold they at least won't oxidize like the aluminum ones if oxygen gets in between the plastic pressings. I have had a lot of data lost on CD-R's over the years that I thought were a safe way to back stuff up, but deteriorated rapidly and in less than ten years were unreadable. Some brands are better than others, but the ones that did not seal well would let a lot of O2 in between the plastic plates and oxidize or rust the aluminum badly. At least that's what I assume happened.

Thanks for your help as always Tony!

  • It will overwrite the existing rip so if you are a collector and have remastered or deluxe, you might want to note it in the tags manually...
