    Following up here, Tony's escalation got me an after-hours appointment with Bluesound tech support and we successfully got the Mini 2i onto my wifi network.  tldr:  a wifi range extender was interfering with the speaker; removing that extender cleaned up the network and I am extremely satisfied with both the Mini 2i and with Bluesound's support.
