Now that we have a connection with Google assistant. Could you please make it so that they can be seen in the Google home app and make it possible to make speaker groups like with any other Google speakers. That should also solve above issues.
    Eagerly awaiting your reply!

    Any progress?

I did just that - after a few weeks of frustration I returned my Bluesound set up and changed to Sonos instead. With Sonos it just works every time, you never need to regroup anything.

A bit sad though since I love the sound of Bluesound which is better that Sonos. But the ease of use with Sonos just compensate all that - they are miles ahead when it comes to software and ease of use. And sounds good enough also.

Unfortunately I have a similar post open for roughly 18 months now without any concrete progress/commitment whatsoever.
This situation continuous to frustrate me therefore I am hesitant to expand/update my set and am considering to jump the ship as well. On a positive note I really enjoy the sound quality and design. Please fix this issue Bluesound!

    +1 for this too.

    Any updates?

With the latest update of Bluos there is an option in the Audio settings called "Stereo Surround". When I enable that option, I hear sound through all speakers, in the Home Cinema Grouping setting! I just don't know yet what it does with Dolby in the movie setting, because then I can't disable the stereo surround setting. Apparently this setting applies to all modes. But it seems that progress has been made after all! Would be nice if it was communicated by Bluesound itself.

Thx Andre! I wasn't aware of it. Check https://www.bluesound.com/news/2020/bluesound-adds-new-surround-mode-listening-option/

Thanks for sharing the article! Now i still hope you can set it per mode. I don't feel like having stereo sound on my rear speakers when I'm just watching TV.

    We're almost there!

That would indeed be the ultimate solution André, but I'm already quite happy with this.  Thanks for sharing!

    Hi,

I used to use chromecast audio - I could play the sound individually and in groups straight from Spotify without having to open any app to remake groups.

This is NOT a Spotify API bug, this is a very basic feature that is still missing after 3 years on my node 2i!?

Is there any plan of making one speaker joining multiple groups possible anytime soon?

If is would be added I think anyone that owns more than one unit would be really happy! :)

+1 Exact same scenario as mentioned above.

@Bluesound Crew > would love to get an update on this. Adding this feature would truly increase my listening experience.

The other request about the same issue (couldn't call it a missing feature anymore) was just closed.

Think this Mark T. guy is a bot.

Opened a support ticket but I'm not very hopeful that somebody shares the actual status of feature development after these four years when people where promised that it is complicated to implement (I DO! understand that, really) but work is ongoing. After four years there HAS to be some news on development for customers or they never started to investigate/divert resources and they lied to customers.

Please clarify and keeping us hopeful that bluesound will keep up with competitors to constantly improve their products and keep up with both the 'outside' pace of product development and their customer wishes.

Love their products, currently have 5 (+ battery pack) and like the ease of use still. But there has to be continued support for customers...

Just wanted add the obligatory +1 to this feature. Seems ridiculous to use the excuse that their groups but was built around a different structure when this seems the most basic structure that should have been thought of. You don’t even have to do what is suggested with having a speaker part of multiple groups just improve the UI so you can move an individual speaker between groups by dragging and dropping, or even more just have a “move” button and select the new group, and let the grouping and un grouping be done by the app in the background. The issue isn’t structural like you claim, because it can be mostly changed with UI only.

I also wanted to add there was an update, at some point recently, that made this worse. Though the speakers were receiving the same source, previously I could control the volume of each speaker separately with the volume buttons on the speaker, and the play pause button would also stop just that single speaker (good for adjusting rooms individually on the fly and worked las a work around to the issue reported in this thread); this also was the same with the remote which now sees them as a single speaker - they truly act as a single speaker now and retain no independence which is a step backward. Additionally in the app, clicking on the group used to show each individual speaker and allowed individual volume adjustments and tweaks, now you have to click on the group, open that up, click on the speaker, click on settings adjust that speaker, leave the menu, click on the group click on another speaker, and repeat for each adjustment you want to make.

If fixing the grouping is so hard, then at least go back to how you had it before as you’ve just doubled down on the problem.

Additionally, could you share an API with developers? I feel like my software team could make an app pretty quickly that would do this and save you the trouble.

I had some hopes for BluOS 4.0 to fix this freakin' 5 years old issue. Last nail in the coffin for Bluesound, I guess. At least on a personal level. Happy to communicate that experience whenever the chance arises.

I'm curious as to WHY Bluesound refuses to implement this?

    1
  • Thierry Sommelet

Past explanations point to an impossibility to implement this based on the design of their system. Which is why there could be hope if this release is a major redesign…

  • Werner Adams

...multiple groups with double speaker in it, is a "basic" function, this function is needed and important... Werner   PS: every Server Software has this function !!!

  • krang

@Thierry: Sorry to say, seems like all hope is gone after five years of nothing.

If the redesign would allow that, they would announced that but I think it's more of a design in redesign than a redo of the code to do this kind of changes.

Will see what one can program around using the api/http interface...

Can you group for e.g. a home theater group but still address individual speakers via roon?

@Tony W. can you at least share what you are doing with this topic instead of sharing you are reading it? It would give some comfort in at least understanding what progress you guys made on this heavy topic in the last period(s).

    Hi Carl-David

Adding and removing rooms is as simple as pressing the Plus or Minus sign in the Player Selection Drawer next to Players you want to add to the currently highlighted group.

For Moving, press the follow me arrow on the currently selected player and then select your destination room.

Add New Player is for setting up a Player for the first time. https://support1.bluesound.com/hc/en-us/articles/203055748

In Spotify's case, we can't; Unfortunately this is a limitation of the Spotify API (and only Spotify)...

You do have to App switch but it works; https://support1.bluesound.com/hc/en-us/articles/204063926

When implemented, we were the first Spotify Connect system that had groups. Since then the landscape has changed and Spotify has notified us that they are looking to add this functionality in the future...

@Tony: It's not a limitation in the Spotify API. When I create a group in BlueOS, it instantly appears in the list of "outputs" in Spotify. So this feature request is simply about making it possible for a speaker to be part of multiple groups.

    Hi Carl-David

So this feature request is simply about making it possible for a speaker to be part of multiple groups.

As always we do forward all feedback to our product development team for consideration but I do know as it stands right now, we can't without a major redesign of how our grouping methodology works so won't be soon.

For Spotify, please use the work around we have published, and let Spotify know as well too that you want the ability to Group in their App as well in hopes they will update their API which is really the solution you are looking for.

    Thanks for #LivingHiFi

I mean indeed the way groups are made. And I don’t understand that’s so difficult to adjust the groups. It’s already possible to create one group with speakers, just make it possible to create multiple groups with the same speakers and then the groups are visible in Spotify.

Grouping/ungrouping in BluOS is not a workable option for me.

I want to support this feature request : the fact that one speaker can only be part of a single group removes completely the usefulness of the Fixed Groups. I would like a group with my whole house showing in addition to each individual room, and not having to redo the grouping each time I need it !

Plus dynamic grouping has bugs, which I'll report separately

    Hi Thierry

If you are having issues, please select Help, Send Support Request in the App.

A note about Fixed Groups - they are just that - fixed. We originally were going to name them Perma-Groups but that didn't translate well. A fixed Group is not supposed to be taken apart...ever. It is Fixed...(such as a Home Theatre or SteroePair). This is why it appears as a single Player in the App once it is a Fixed Group. They aren't designed to be 'favorites'.

If you want to move a Player into and out of a group, even if it is occasionally, then use standard dynamic grouping. Note Bluesound Players have, for lack of better term, inertial grouping (following Newton's laws of motion). A Bluesound Player will stay group or ungrouped until you break the group...

    Thanks for the feedback.

Nothing wrong with the fact that these groups are permanent. It should just not prevent me from having a speaker be part of different groups.

Or to put it another way, what you are calling groups is not a real multi-room feature: is is an association of speakers so that they always work together. So it is fine if you want to setup a left and right speaker together, or a home theater system, but I don't know of any multi-room user who would always want to have the rooms on or off together.

So whatever you call them, fixed groups, or favorites, doesn't matter. What is missing from the app is a way to create groups of speakers or room that you can activate quickly without having to recreate the group at each time.

I also want to support this feature request. The current dynamic grouping feature doesn't fit the fact that speakers stay where they are and are not moved permanently around my house (which would raise the need for dynamic grouping).

Imagine an L shaped room with three speakers: A and B located at the far ends of the L and speaker C located in the corner of the L. Depending in which part of the room I am I want speakers A and C playing or speakers B and C playing. This does not change. There is no need to be totally dynamic. What I need is a quick way to select "A and C" or "B and C".

With current dynamic grouping I always have to select A as my current player and dynamically add C. If I go around the corner I have to select B and dynamically add C. This is way too many clicks. It would be better if I could create two groups: "A and C" and "B and C" and switch between these two with one click.

And another +1 here for me. Not using Spotify, but moving my players in differents configurations that i would like to keep in memory.
