    Hi TeikB

Apple AirPlay 2 requires a specific hardware authentication as required by Apple. Currently this isn only offered in the New Bluesound 2i line up. Going forward, it is our intent to include this hardware authentication in all future 3rd Party BluOS Ready or BluOS Enabled products but is not included in the current BluOS MDC.

If AirPlay 2 is important to you, we do recommend an external Bluesound Node 2i.

Will there be an updated Mdc module like an BluOS mdc 3 and when will that be released. Or will an updated firmware be enough?

  • Hi Andre

We can't do it through software only. Our friends at NAD are aware of this as the current BluOS MDC does not support the authorization chip set. They have not shared with us yet what or when the next MDC model will look like.

The recently announced NAD C658 will be their first product including the AuthIC chip set for AirPlay 2 but won't be the last... They intend to include it in all future BluOS Enabled products and BluOS Ready solutions.

Good to know I have to wait out on buying a new amp. I hope it won’t take to long.

Having bought the NAD C658 a few days ago I was very disappointed to find out that AirPlay 2 - contrary to your statement above, Tony - is not implemented and I can not understand why it was not possible to implement this feature to NAD´s new "flagship" concerning new technologies and interfaces, while it is common on every Bluesound product. As I could imagine that I will not be the only frustrated customer I really would like to ask NAD to put all their effort into finding a way to solve this problem.

  • Hi Dietmar

The NAD C658 includes the hardware requirements for Apple. It however has not been enabled as it does require an approval and certification process by the good folks in Cupertino, California. NAD is working to obtain that but wanted to get the other amazing features of the C658 in your hands sooner rather than wait on this.

    Hello Tony,

Thank you VERY MUCH for your positive answer! The reason for my frustration was, that my dealer told me, that there will not be any chance for AirPlay because the hardware componet to enable this, was not installed. And you are completely right: I will enjoy the beautiful sound of the C658 using other sources in the meantime and wait for the upgrade.

Hi Tony, do you know when the updates are likely to roll out? I've just taken delivery of a NAD C368 with BluOS 2i MDC - I can't currently find the device on AirPlay and am assuming that I have a similar issue as you describe with the C658 in that it is simply waiting for a s/w upgrade? Cheers

  • Hi Richard - we are continuing to work with Apple on this but I don't have any estimated timelines from our QA or Development team as of yet.

Ok no problem, given I've got Amazon Music nativley in the app I now don't specificly have a need for AirPlay anymnore, but I paid extra to get the MDC 2i module for AirPlay and thought I was going mad when I couldn't find the device on the network! As long as it's a pending update tbh that's fine by me. Cheers

Any updates on this progress?   I too recently bought a C368 with a BluOS 2i module installed...under the impression this would all work.   Come to find out it does not show up as an airplay device much to my disappointment.
