Vault 2 usage and abilities
AnsweredI have a question for all, especially staff on the abilities and usage of the Vault 2. Hoping I didn't get lead astray on my research and/or fail to do a good job.
I have multiple requirements for the music server
1 - simply as a nas, easy ripping, always available on network and dedicated unlike the laptop your daughter constantly uses, runs dead, leaves in her room - cough but ...I digress (pretty sure it does this)
2 - This has to do something in the form of shares (SMB) for a sonos system so I can enjoy my music library streaming through my Sonos zones (pretty sure can do this, was told so by Crutchfield chat support..)
3 - and lastly but MOST importantly, to store Hi-res music files and run directly via digital connection to a Wadia Di-122 DAC for my main listening stereo. Which leads to another part of the question 3....I see through these forums a few spots where it points out vault 2 is not a player...when I connect via bluos it shows my usb mounted data and lets me hit play, has playlists I can make etc, will the vault 2 not play music out the digital outs to my dac, stereo??
Assuming it can do all of this... my biggest issue is that it doesn't do Wi-Fi, just amazing that anything doesn't let alone this device. I need it to be in my livingroom with the stereo eq for the really hi end listening not upstairs in a den to directly connected to my router. Trying a bridge the next 2 days to use in my livingroom but the other 3 questions are mounting in my head since I have experienced my first issue with said new piece of stereo eq :)

Hello Robb,
To answer your questions the Vault is designed as an always on always ready device. This means as long as your Vault is connected to your network, the library located on the Vault will be accessible to other devices.
Unfortunately I am not too familiar with how Sonos handles their sharing and library management but with that being said the Vault 2 uses the SMB sharing protocol to share its library to other devices on the network. So long as your Sonos players are compatible with SMB sharing, you should be able to access your library on the Vault.
As for the digital outputs of the Vault, to have digital output from the Vault go to your external DAC you would simply have to connect the Digital Coax of Optical output from the Vault 2 to your DAC. After connecting the 2 devices, please ensure that the volume on your devices are at appropriate levels and that your DAC is set to receive input from the port which the Vault is connected.
I hope this information helps but if you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us directly at support@bluesound.com
Regards,
Wesley P.
