Unable to add Local Share
AnsweredI cannot get the BluOS Controller to add a Local Share. I have tried both browsing to my music folder and setting the path directly using my IP address, neither with success. I have confirmed that my administrator password is correct, but it keeps failing to connect.
Has anyone experienced similar trouble adding a Local Share?

This question is about local shares and not about network shares - can you answer the question about setting a local folder as the music source for the desktop app please? Thanks

Hi Eliot
Local Shares performs all the steps you otherwise would have to manually do to allow Windows or Macs to securely share their local content with another computer or IoT Appliance such as Bluesound Players.
Using the Desktop App, use Local Shares to locate a folder on your local PC and create the share permissions to allow Bluesound to then automatically mount the Network Share and add those songs to the Local Library in the BluOS App.

OK - but the problem is, this doesn't work. When I try to set up a local share, the desktop app gets to this screen and then gets stuck - nothing happens after this point.
So how do I get it to actually work? Thanks

I've set up all the permissions on the folder and copied those to the contents too. Still doesn't work tho.

Hi Eliot
I have escalated your request. We will be in touch

OK - thank you.
I think there's a wider problem here tho.
I'm now using Bluesound with Tidal, and on the desktop app in particular, there are just so many bugs it reflects very badly on this 'premium' product and brand.
The layout breaks, it doesn't show the correct track playing in a playlist, sometimes the playlist sort controls are there, sometimes not, the Spotify icon is always present on the left even tho I don't have the app installed, there's no auto-update for the app, the android app has a white-background software navigation bar...
And the thing is, it's the software the makes the experience - great software makes for happy users.
So - please can you try to really focus on the software :) Thanks.

System, consisting of Node 2i, Power Node2i and 3 NAD CI580 players, configured in a commersial instalation and worked flawlessly for more than 6 months stopped playing from a local folder 3 days ago after the latest update. All the playlists appear broken, and when I try to re-add the music folder, I get the same error as above: "The selected folder is not local to the computer." I can't add it as a network folder too, after performing every single step provided from BlueSound for the network and sharing in Windows 10.
After two days, still no luck, and the system is working from flash drives.
BlueSound, please, investigate the cause of the problem and provide a fix.
Thank you in advance, I hope to hear from you soon.

The same problem occurs here: "the selected folder is not local to the computer".
I have sent a help request, hope this will be fixed on short term.0 -
Hi Pieter
Use the screenshots form this Help Centre Article to manually setup your share on your Windows or Mac PC.

Hi Tony, network shares don't give issues. Local shares give this issue. Also USB drives connected to mine computer are "not local to the computer".

Local Shares is a one time setup Wizard to create Network Shares. If Network Shares are working then there is no need to use Local Shares. If you have not set up Network Shares and the Local Shares is not working, please refer to the screen shots I suggested.

Tony I am confused by your note above - it implies that we have an option to use either Local or Network Shares:
" ...Local Shares is a one time setup Wizard to create Network Shares..."I was told by Bluesound advisors that at this time LOCAL shares are NOT available and the only way to access PC based music files is via Network Shares. Please confirm!
If that is the case, is there a plan / schedule to have the LOCAL Shares option resorted.
it is more convenient, as it offers Browser functionThank You

Hi GoBuch - not sure where you heard that and I apologise for the confusion.
Once you have set up the Network Share, you can browse too using the Folders option under Local Library. Please read the article I sent a link to and set up your share. Then browse the Local Library in the App.
If you have issues setting it up, please select Help, Send Support Request so we may see the log file.

Hi Tony, this: "Once you have set up the Network Share, you can browse too using the Folders option under Local Library." doesn't work.
The message: "the selected folder is not local to the computer" still occurs. I would like to adres mine internal local drives directly through the desktop app and not through mine network.

Hi Pieter - It doesn't work that way... the Music is still going through the network to reach the Players. Please follow my instructions above.

Hi Tony, what is the use of the Local Shares wizard in the desktop app when it doesn't work?
0 -
I have the same problem it just says Error: The selected folder is not local to the computer.
So what can we do ?
Also as Pieter ask what is the use of the local Shares option when it doesnt work ? Also the link you provided doesnt have any screenshots like you said.

Use the screenshots form this Help Centre Article to manually set up your share on your Windows or Mac PC.

It doesnt matter how many times you post that link Tony, it doesnt work for me when trying to add local folders, also like I said your link doesnt have any screenshots, but I did follow the steps there but again it doesnt work.
I give up for now cause it doesnt seem to work, at least not for me. And I would still like to know why the add local folders option is there if we have to use the other share network folder option like you said.

Hi Tom
In the Help Centre Article it asks for Windows or Mac;
Please see these Help Centre articles to enable file sharing on your PC;
- Windows 7 or 10; BLS-KB14-601 - File Sharing - Microsoft Windows
- Apple Macintosh; BS-KB14-602 - File Sharing - MacOS
Pick the correct Article then locate the screenshots there... I hope that helps point you in the correct direction.

You mean the pdf file? :)
I already looked at it but it didnt help me :(
As soon as I get to where I have to browse for the local folder I want to use it gives me that error saying "the selected folder is not local to the computer" not sure what im doing wrong or if I miss a setting. Also it looked a bit different here when I looked at the screenshots in the pdf than what I see on my windows 10, some of it was the same and some other part I could not find or see. I think I will buy a small USB harddrive and plug into my node 2i and then put all my mp3 and flac files on there. Might be easier for me. Thx for trying to help though :)

22 days ago, I wrote about this problem. I can clearly see many people have exactly the same problem, and we still don't have a solution. Every answer pointing to the help article is useless. I wrote an email with the logs from all the players, and still no answer. Any news?

Hope this helps anyone running into this bug including anyone from Product that can direct a bug report to the engineers.
In my specific case (Windows 10 x64 BluOS 3.6.12) this looks like a pure UI bug.
When I go to Settings -> Library -> Local Shares -> Add share (Click on Plus sign) -> Browse I ** IMMEDIATELY ** receive a "The selected Folder is not local to the computer" pop up box. When I try to pick any local folder (YES these are 100% local folders -- C:\<directory>, B:\<directory>, etc) it just keeps repeating the same pop-up box with the same error message.
However, when I skip the UI browse folder option and simply type in C:\<directory> or B:\<directory> in the form field box, then it works perfectly fine and I'm able to add a Local Share the way I need to. To me this looks like a UI bug.
I'd be happy to do a Zoom or WebEx screenshare with anyone at Bluesound support to reproduce this bug.
Thanks.

Yes... I've just used your workaround to successfully mount a local share. Until now I've been plagued by the same error messages and unable to play music from a new Mac running macOS Catalina. So thankyou. And as there appears to be a solution - please Bluesound - could you fix the software. Thanks

@Hugh how did you do this in MacOS? I'm still on El Capitan (old Mac Pro)

In the BluOS Controller App for Mac go to ... Settings—> Music Library —> click on + to Add Folder but do not Browse.
Instead, click once on the grey box labelled Choose Folder. There is no cursor displayed at this point.
Type the name of the computer using the format \\computer name\iTunes Music (where iTunes Music is the name of the Folder containing the music files you want to play)Then press Return to select that Local Share location. Hope it works for you.0
