Seems this is a TV error.

They had me submit a diagnosis and they reviewed the error logs.
I'm still working with TCL to resolve it. A factory reset helped the sound come through HDMI but with CEC on, it still freezes my TV.

    Here's the help response:

This indicates that your player has been given the command to be muted instead of being given the command to power off. This is something that seems to happen with some brands of TVs; Sony unfortunately is a known offender.

The TV is sending a CEC MUTE command when set to standby. Most TVs send a CEC POWER OFF command instead.

The POWERNODE will ignore the POWER OFF command by design. The POWERNODE must respond to the MUTE command by design.

The only way to prevent this behavior is to turn OFF HDMI CEC on your TV. Unfortunately, HDMI CEC is not a standard naming practice for this setting and can be called different things depending on the brand/model of the TV. It would be best for you to consult your TV manual, or contact your TV's manufacturer. A pro tip is that it may not appear on the first layer of your TV's settings and you may have to dig a bit deeper into the advanced settings. (With Sony TVs this setting is usually referred to as BRAVIA SYNC in my experience but check the TV manual if this is not an option)
