Powernode switching to HDMI Input randomly
AnsweredHello,
I've got a Panasonic OLED TV (TV-42Z85AGZ running FireTV OS) connected to a BlueSound Powernode. I'm not using the TV much, but when I do, most content is streamed using an Apple TV 4K connected to the TV.
This issue occurs while playing audio content, the input randomly switches to HDMI ARC, stopping playback. The streaming input option doesn't appear to make any difference, whether with music played from a NAS on the local network, Tidal or TuneIN streaming via the BluOS app, or using Roon to control the Powernode. The switching to HDMI happens within an hour of starting streaming, but it can take much less time than that and can occur multiple times per hour.
Based on what I've been able to find in forums, I've tried a few things to see if it resolves the issue:
- Disconnected the Wifi on the Panasonic TV
- In the Panasonic TV settings > Display & Audio > HDMI-CEC set "Power Control" to "Off"
- Disconnected the Apple TV cable from the Panasonic TV to eliminate the Apple TV as the source of the switching.
In all cases, the random switching behaviour continued. So far, the only way I've been able to stop it is by disconnecting the TV from the Powernode itself.
'Auto Sense' is enabled on the HDMI input. Looking at the instructions, this appears to be the correct state for my configuration. My primary use cases for the set-up are:
- As a radio alarm clock, with streaming from TuneIn
- As a Roon endpoint for streaming music
- Occasional watching TV using an Apple TV, with the Apple TV remote controlling Power and Volume via HDMI-CEC
All of this is working for me apart from the random switching to the HDMI input while listening to music.
Thanks for any suggestions or help you can offer.

This all sounds like standard CEC and the TV taking control of the POWERNODE (despite the settings you are seeing on your TV). It could be a 'noisy' defective HDMI cable...
Try replacing the cable, also try the inconvenience of disabling Auto Sense. If problems persist, you will need to send our Support Crew a log file so that they can see what is happening when the POWERNODE is 'hijacked'.
Log files are sent automatically when you select Settings, Send Support Request in the BluOS App.

Hey Tony,
Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried some alternative HDMI cables from different shops, and they all do the same thing, so I think we can exclude the cables being an issue.
I tried disabling the "Auto Sense" and the switching behaviour hasn't been occurring even after several hours of playback. Unfortunately, this also disables the TV/Apple TV from waking up the Powernode, which sort of defeats the purpose of our setup.
For raising a support case, I can roll it all back to the original configuration with "Auto Sense" enabled; then start playing music before raising a case immediately after I notice it switching to HDMI? There are multiple players on my network; is there anything in the app I need to do to make sure that the correct players’ logs are sent?

Just go ahead and send us the log files. We will take it from there.
