  Hi MDS.
  
  This is expected behavior when using our products. When a headphone is connected — either via Bluetooth or a physical connection — all other physical audio outputs are automatically disabled. This ensures a proper listening experience through the headphones without simultaneous playback from other outputs.

  Mark, How does the Bluesound unit know that headphones are connected? My guess is a software switch is employed that the controls the relay to the speaker outputs?
  Is there a way to check whether the Bluesound unit believes there is a headphones connected to it?
  The reason I ask is because I believe there is a bug in the software that is stopping the output relays from clicking ON and I wondered if it was the headphone functionality that was to blame.
