Digital output quality of Node Nano vs Node (2024)
AnsweredHello. I have a whole house of networked Bluesound and NAD products, which have been excellent.
I'm setting up a new desktop system now that uses active monitors with S/PDIF input.
Two questions:
* For digital-only output, is there any sound-quality advantage in using the Node Nano vs the Node (2024)? I imagine the improvements on the latter apply mainly to the analog outs, but correct me if I'm wrong please.
* When outputting from (either) Node to my monitors via S/PDIF, will the Node volume control apply to the digital signal? There is no way to control volume output on the speakers themselves, so it's critical that the Node allow for this in the digital domain.
Thanks!

There will be “measurable” differences in digital outputs but probably nothing either of us could ever hear.
Depending on your requirements, a NANO is quite basic connection wise but the NODE has multiple inputs (including HDMI ARC) so can be used more like a preamplifier for additional sources.
The analogue and digital outputs can either be variable or fixed, so yes you will be able to control your speakers volume.

Thanks. It seems like the Nano may be the way to go if I am only using the digital output.
