DoP or native DSD on digital (USB) output of new NODEs
AnsweredWill it be possible (after a firmware upgrade) to send DoP (DSD over PCM) or, in the case of the NODE ICON in particular, native DSD to an external DAC via the USB (or other digital) output of a NODE (N132) or NODE ICON? Will this capability also be communicated to Roon via RAAT (both NODE models are advertised as Roon-Ready) so that the corresponding DSD settings are available in Roon for the two NODE models?
Unfortunately, this is not possible with my NODE 2i at this time because, for some obscure reason, Roon does not allow to configure DoP for it.
Kind regards

Hi Heiko
I cannot speak for ROON as they are a third-party service. I can tell you that yes direct DSD playback will be coming to the NODE N132 and NODE ICON via DoP.

Hi, Tony,
thanks for the info. However, Bluesound has an impact on the behaviour of Roon because its devices are 'Roon-Ready'. I cannot configure DoP for my current NODE 2i because it doesn't advertise to Roon this option via RAAT - at least that is how I understand Roon's behaviour. I use my NODE 2i as a pure streamer to expose my actual DAC to Roon, which is to say, I use the NODE 2i's coax digital output to connect to the DAC, and the DAC understands DoP. But while I can send DoP to the NODE 2i's digital input to have it copy it to its digital outputs incl. coax, I cannot configure Roon to do so.
Cheers

PS Will DoP also come to the NODE 2i via firmware update? Or will DoP only be digitally output via USB from the new NODEs?

DoP will not be made available on older products such as the NODE 2i due to hardware limitations.

What hardware limitations? The idea of DoP is to look like PCM to a non-DoP-aware device, I just expect the NODE 2i to expose it on its digital outputs.
