NAD 389 with bluosD upgrade fails every time: Stage 1 error 1

Initially I could not get past setup, and still have not fully (bluos controller app says needs setup on player)

I have the ethernet connected and after a long struggle I am able to play music off of spotify to the NAD 389.

Every time I try to upgrade bluos on the player however, it fails. I have tried through the app and straight from the NAD settings. I have tried resetting everything and unplugging for ~10 minutes multiple times.
