Documentation issue about adding local shares
Warning! Brand-new Bluesound user, got my devices yesterday. Stupid newbie statements may appear.
I set up network shares for my music library, using the names for my NAS:
I created the index, and everything went fine. But because I create new playlists every night, I wanted to reindex, but now the library was missing.
I was able to track down the issue. When I went to the diagnositcs, I saw:
That is, the player had the IP-address. I checked, and indeed, the NAS now had a different IP-address. I logged on to my router, and set a fixed IP-address for the NAS, and now everything is working.
However, when I look at https://support.bluos.net/hc/en-us/articles/360000469948--How-do-I-connect-music-on-my-NAS-PC-or-iTunes-Shared-Music-to-BluOS and https://support.bluos.net/hc/en-us/articles/360000186887-File-Sharing-Microsoft-Windows there is no warning about this. In fact, the first post warns against using the IP-address.
These pages could be updated with recommending setting a fixed IP for the NAS.
Also, the diagnostics in the apps for this situation could be improved. When rebuilding the index, it said "Index 1 songs" for thirty 30 seconds and then completed. The library was still visible in the Android app, but trying to access failed with some incomprehensible error.

The tech support document correctly warns about using an IP, unless you have reserved the IP then it will change and you of course loose connection. A lot of users are not aware enough to reserve IP addresses.
My point was that this applies also if I specify the name, as the players seem to save the IP-address.
During a rebuild index it does “count” in blocks so if you have a small library it may complete reindexing before the count is updated. Not sure about the error but you may have tried to access the library too quickly and it was still finishing. A rebuild index clears the database and starts from scratch but a reindex just looks, for newly added tracks.
To clarify: I was talking about the situation when there was no library, because the NAS had a different IP-address than they players thought it had.
