Using the BluOS app you will only get MQA, Tidal Connect will give you the higher resolutions. MQA are FLAC files and can actually be CD bitrates, if there is no MQA version available then you get CD quality via the BluOS App.

Edited to make it clearer… possibly

Ok thanks, will bluos update the app then as seems way behind?

Sorry absolutely no idea of any changes due.

Tidal did not update the API to reflect the changes they made last year, I am no longer a Tidal user so can’t see what’s happening but with the change a few days ago to subscription levels guessing there will probably be things to implement / update etc.

As the owner of MQA, Bluesound obviously finds it difficult to move away from MQA. In the interest of the customer, Bluseound should offer the HR layer instead of MQA and stop beating a dead horse.

EDIT: Sorry my earlier post was incorrect.  Both my other streamers (Bryston and Naim) don't support Max at all but the API is now available.

Unfortunately, Tidal Connect is not an alternative for me because none of my Bluesound/NAD devices are available. These are only visible on the day they were rebooted. By the way, this has been the case since the first day since Tidal Connect was introduced at Bluesound. My soundbar, which comes from a different manufacturer, is always available for selection in the Tidal app.

Other manufacturers play Tidal tracks in their native app in HR, Bluesound could do that too if they didn't stick to MQA. It's not Tidal's fault and I doubt they change their API just for Bluesound.

You're right, other streamers do Max, just not any that I own (sorry my earlier post was incorrect).
