Static sound from speakers on two new Powernode Edge
AnsweredNew Powernode Edge. This is the 2nd unit in 1 week due to a "static" sound from speakers that sounds exactly like a spot on the radio not tuned in. Static can be heard 15 feet away from speakers. The Edge does play all music from any service I choose, but static is still there. I can drown it out by cranking up the volume quite a bit, but that's not really the answer. Especially when it is in idle.
- It does not change in volume with the volume control.
- It is present before setting it up.
- It is not affected whether hooked up to Ethernet or WIFI.
- As soon as you hear the power supply switch in the unit (plugging it in to power), static sound starts.
- It has been tested on multiple outlets from different circuits, including by itself.
- It has static sound before unit update and after unit update.
- It has been rebooted (still static) and factory reset (still static).
- Speaker cable tested for ohms and continuity and perfect on both, and no shorting.
- Speaker wiring is 14ga pure copper with gold banana plugs.
- Speakers are 8 ohm Polk XT20. (Simple to drive them.)
I also purchased the Wiim Amp and it does not have any issues, and the sound is really good. But I was hoping for "slightly" better sound in the bass area, so I purchased the Edge but I can't find why it's making static sound. I have not had any success searching the net either. And I did create a ticket within BluOS app. I doubt I got two bad units in a row so I really think it is something about my setup.
Thanks everyone.

Thank you Seppi.
But reversing had no affect. Makes sense because it is not polarized. And there is nothing plugged into it. It is strictly for streaming only.
Can't take it to a neighbor. And I can't take it to the dealer because I bought it online.
Thank you though,

Hi Bill, I don't know if you've already got an answer elsewhere, but I'm in part writing this reply for others with the same problem to read.
I too encountered this yesterday when moving my Edge from one speaker system to another. It had been working as it should where it was connected up until yesterday. With the new speakers, I had a loud and constant noise from both speakers. I would describe it as white noise. At first I thought the Edge was broken, but after measuring the new speakers I knew what was the problem. They had a highly capacitive and complex impedance which the Edge didn't play well with.
You might say that it can't handle complex speaker loads is a design flaw in the Blusound Edge, but my speakers presented a difficult load I'll admit - alltough all the other amplifiers I have used them with worked fine. My speakers are DIY built, and I had to change the crossover somewhat - that solved the problem for me. I read your speakers are the Polk XT20. Erin measured them over at Erins Audio Corner . Their impedance curve seems pretty standard to me, but it might be that they present a capacitive load above the audio band (that does not show up in the measured curve). I think you have to simply accept that the Edge won't work properly with the Polk XT20 and use a different pair of speakers (or swap the Edge out for another streaming amplifier solution).
Best luck to you!
