Interruptions listening to Brussels radio station via TuneIn
AnsweredHi,
For several months I have issues listening to my favorite Belgian radio station (Studio Brussel).
I'm using a Node2i connected via network cable.
When streaming the radio station to the node via Roon there is no problem at all.
When streaming the radio station using TuneIn get regular interruptins. Sound stops and the streaming starts over (some adds, then music resumes).
Same behaviour over wifi and wired.
No problems streaming other radion stations. No problems streaming Tidal.
Anyone else experiencing the issue?
Thanks

It is likely an issue with the stream itself on TuneIn which may vary widely from station to station. See if an alternate stream is available for this station; https://support.bluos.net/hc/en-us/articles/360000261928
Otherwise you will have to reach out to TuneIn about station availability.

Thanks Tony,
I tried several URLs: AAC, MP3, etc
All same issues. And 0 issues via Roon

Maybe try to input the direct link to the radiostation using the app: TuneIn>Favourites>add custom station.
Links to broadcasters: https://www.webradiostreams.nl/index.html
Link to StuBru: https://icecast.vrtcdn.be/stubru-high.mp3
Works well for me.

Yep, tried that. Same issue.
Actually tried all 3:
https://icecast.vrtcdn.be/stubru-high.mp3
https://icecast.vrtcdn.be/stubru-mid.mp3
https://icecast.vrtcdn.be/stubru.aacDo you listen to StuBru via TuneIn on a Bluesound device? No issues?

Mostly Radio 1 & 2 (B) and occasionally Radio 10 (nl), no StuBru I'm afraid.
No, only very rarely a loss of buffer, maybe once per 3 months. Could be the TuneIn server, which is why I have a backup using a direct link.

ok, thanks ...
My understanding is that TuneIn is just a library of radio URL's (and app/interface).
Music is not going via TuneIn servers.
So it doesn't matter all that much if you use the link in TuneIn or paste in the same URL.0 -
Hi Yves, I have the same wired setup and have the same problems while listening to Belgian radio stations via TuneIn. Streaming from Deezer is ok.
My provider is Telenet. I live in region of Antwerp.
Are you still having this annoing problem?0 -
Have a look at this page: https://www.vrt.be/nl/ons-aanbod/streamingslinks-radio
Seems the "direct" links do not go over TuneIn.
I'm also in the Antwerp region (provider edpnet) and not having these interruptions, even over TuneIn.

Hi Alain, thank you for your repost.
I allready tried the direct URL’s without succes. I believe the URL-streaming on the Node goes also via tuneIn. I can only add them in the favorites tab of tuneIn in the BluOS app.
I also get the commercials when I open or change a radio station.
Now I wonder which provider is used by Yves.0 -
Hi Hugo,
I have given up on TuneIn and only use DAB or Roon to listen to radio.
I did some research on the internet when the problems started and from what I can find it is related to a new advertisement strategy TuneIn implemented in 2023. There is an add at the beginning of the stream, but also later on at regular intervals. Some folks on the internet from all over (not just Belgium) complained about similar issues like us. Music stops, sometimes there is an add, sometimes not. Then it resumes. Many people have stopped using TuneIn since then. Weird is that it does not seem to bother everyone. Alain DW seems to do ok.
I contacted TuneIn and they recommended a paid subscription that removes the adds.
When I buy new equipment I always check if it uses TuneIn for radio. If it does it is a no-go for me.
DAB works fine for me although I also read comments about bad reception for others (even in Belgium).
Roon is perfect ... but expensive ... the TuneIn issues actually pushed me to buy a lifetime subscription.
I'm afraid this does not help you, but this is what I found and did ...

Adding the URL manually does nothing if you enter it in TuneIn ... it still adds the advertisement
I'm with Telenet ...
