This will be the protection circuit kicking in to stop damage to the POWERNODE. Have a look at the speaker specifications and see how sensitive they are and what their Ohms rating is.

Hi, thanks for your reply. My speakers are 4ohms 88db. What are the ideal speaker impedance?

POWERNODE will work with 4Ohm speakers but if they dip below that figure then you run into problems when driven hard, sensitivity is fine and I have some 85db bookshelf speakers but they are 6Ohm and can be driven to silly volume levels.

What are the speaker make / model please?

Epos K1i. Got them cheap of Ebay. It's my first system. Got a subwoofer too off Ebay, bk electronics xls300 for a bargain and the sub has just gone back to the manufacturer for repairs. No cutting out issues when the sub was connected. Do you think it's because the bookshelf speakers are having to now put out the low frequencies?

Absolutely this! The lower frequencies need much more power than the treble. With the subwoofer you were effectively taking the lower bass away from the Epos speakers and presenting a much easier load for the POWERNODE.

If I were setting up a new HiFi system (and had the money) it would consist of two mono power amplifiers for the bass / mid drivers and then a lesser power stereo amplifier for the tweeters.

The BK subs are a fantastic bargain!
