“ apple tv can detect the node x and i select it”

If you are doing this in the Apple TV audio menu then you are connecting via AirPlay and bypassing the TV for audio. Optical is one way only so no information can travel back from the Node to the TV.

For the PS3 try setting the audio output to PCM (if such a setting exists) and also look at the TVs audio settings, again this needs to be PCM (stereo).

Both are set to pcm. Why could sound not travel from the tv to the bluesound via the optical? is there another blu-ray player that would work (i’ve read sony has issues with bluesound), or would i need one with two hdmi outs, so one can go to tv for video and one to the node to audio? has anyone gotten a bluray to work with the node? and if so, how?

I said “ Optical is one way only so no information can travel back from the Node to the TV.” not what you posted which is the other direction. Of course audio can travel from the TV to the NODE via optical, assuming the optical output is turned on and the format is correct.

Do check TV setting again, “passthrough” is another good option to select as this then does not interfere with the audio signal.

thanks for trying to help. ps3 set to pcm and speakers set to audio system instead of tv speakers. tv set to pass through mode and digital audio out to pcm… still no sound. read other threads here with sony issues. i may need to buy a proper cd player and see if it works. has anyone here used the node to do audio from their bluray/tv set up and have it work?

I assumed you tried the ARC port, but good catch.
