I have a window 8.1 computer. How do I show the names and artist of songs that are on the computer as unknown artist or unknow soundtrack?

Help!! I really need to show the titles and the artist of the songs on window 8.1 but all I get is "unknown". I can't even get window 8.1 to record a song from a CD.
