The battery kit just supplies power to the unit. If there is a WiFi signal it can connect given the appropriate network credentials.

I have a battery pack on a Felx 2i and it maintains a WiFi connection as I move it around the house.

One thing to note is that the rechargeable batteries in the unit are user replaceable when they reach end-of-life, the battery pack has a latch that opens for easy battery replacement.

Does this mean that you can have a second set of rechargeable batteries and swap them around (recharging the unused set with another charger) so that you always have a fresh set of batteries available? It seems strange to me that with a small speaker such as this it is not recommended by Bluesound to go into ‘vacation’ mode, or presumably disconnect the mains, thus anchoring the speaker to one place unless you pay out £89 for a set of rechargable batteries and a plastic holder!

I suppose one could do that.  Are you asking whether you can travel with the Flex away from power sources and WiFi? Someone from Bluesound support might be able to provide and answer to that question, I'm just another Bluesound customer.

The batteries last several hours and recharge while the unit plugged into power, what you Brits call 'mains'. The battery pack on my Flex is several years old and I have not had to replace the batteries in the pack. The battery case is more substantial than a 'plastic holder' and has a connector designed for the Flex. It contains 8 high capacity 2300 mAh AA batteries, not the regluar lower charge 1500 to 1900 mAh type typically available. Good rechargeable batteries of this type typically cost more.

Thanks Brian. From what I have read the unit will work on the battery pack just as it does on ‘mains’ and so should stream where it has Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection, otherwise it will be able to receive Bluetooth and hard wired connections, or a usb stick etc.
Sorry about the whinge over the battery pack, it’s just that I have ordered a flex and had been expecting to be able to use it in various locations around the house but it seems this may be problematic without the further expense of the battery pack, which here costs around a third of the cost of the unit itself.

Good to hear back from you.

Alternatively there are power cables available for a lower cost. One could put power cables where needed and plug the unit into mains.

A quick Amazon search shows there a dozens of 2 prong power cords available.

Thanks Brian, that’s not the issue, the problem I’m seeing is that when disconnecting from one location, to move to another won’t the unit power down and need to restart, thus effectively having a restart, contrary to the Bluesound advice, or am I missing something? Does the unit hold an ‘on state’ for a short period to allow relocation, maybe holding power in a capacitor circuit? Thanks for your help.

Your assumption is correct. There is no 'on state' without a power source.
