Already in there and has been since 3.0

In the top right of Album view in iOS or Android top left of Windows or macOS.

    Sort Preferences for Albums, and Artists Albums. Sort Albums by;

    A to Z
    Recent
    Year
    Decade
    Artist
    Artist & Release Date

    Actually, yes and no.

Search on Artist Name: On the initial search screen, if you select Albums: Show All there is no sort function on the resulting list. However, if you select an Artist from the list, it will take you to the secondary search results. Here you can select Albums: Show All and the Sort appears. And this sort only shows two options A to Z and Recent.

Thank you for your reply. I understand and have learned a bit more about your meta-info based sorting. However, this is not how most DJs sort their tracks. Since most of the time only single tracks from EPs or at most an EP with 2-3 tracks are bought, you end up with a folder e.g. "2023 - 08" with 10 different artists and tracks not only from August 2023 but most likely from the past months or past years, depending on which labels and genres were crawled on Beatport or other DJ sites.

    Example:

    Folder "2023 - 07", everything which I bought in July 2023:

    Artist A - Track 1 (release date 20.08.2021)
    Artist B - Track 2 (release date 01.01.2023)
    Artist C - Track 3 (release date 01.07.2023)

    Folder "2023 - 10", everything which I bought in October 2023:

    Artist D - Track 6 (release date 20.08.2021)
    Artist A - Track 7 (release date 01.01.2022)
    Artist C - Track 8 (release date 08.06.2018)

Usually you end up listening to the last folder you bought, with tracks where no meta-sorting makes any sense at all. I'm aware that this is a bit of an edge case, but having a FIX sort option in the folder structure, even just alphabetically ascending or descending, would be a great help.

Alternatively, jumping directly to the last folder would also be sufficient.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Hi-Res

Hi Dariusaurius, basically you will need to tag your files, but a "quick-fix" is to change your files "Created/Modified dates". You can find software that can do that.
Doing that, regardless of what's in the "tag", they will be sorted by "Created/Modified date" if using "Recent".

In my usecase, when I add files to my library I always "redate" all files to the year of release.

Hi Bjørn, thanks for your idea... unfortunately Traktor (from Native Instruments) changes the modified date every time a track is edited, and this happens quite a lot, for example by adjusting the BPM, the Key, the Comment, the rating etc. I could start a script with a cron job to adjust the modified date back to the created date, but this will need a re-index in BluOS.

And just like Curt mentioned current status quo, investing in programming hours applies to all sort mechanics in all filters... there is no way to set your order ASC or DESC at all.

At this point, wouldn't it be wiser to publish the library via UPnP and have a render target on the BluOS player? This way Bluesound will be able to ignore basic library options for the next years and leave it to some client?  (sorry, for the tiny amount of sarcasm)

UPnP does not work in large multi-room systems such as BluOS due to jitter and handshaking. Not from lack of trying...but things start getting wobbly after adding a 3rd player and cannot do 5. UPnP also needs a third-party server.

I understand... I guess DLNA/UPnP will die with these kinds of restrictions, didn't have high hopes for it in the first place.

Maybe another approach is more reasonable: Remembering the last view in the library after doing other things in the app, like changing the source, opening the presets, going to the preferences. On Android this is nicely done, I can do other things in the app and then go back to "Music" to find myself where I left. The Mac controller software returns to the top view of the library, after navigating to another view beside the library.

I tried to install the BluOS iOS App on my Mac M1, which generally supports iPad apps, but even after I got the .ipa file, the installation was not possible because the app is encrypted... too bad. I hoped for a simple solution.

Thank you all for taking part in this discussion, but I will be using my old Chromecast Audio with optical out until more (customisable) sorting and filtering options for the library are implemented. No worries, I understand the amount of programming involved, and there are a lot of other nice features in BluOS that I will never miss again. ♥️ Time for a new open state of the art alternative for DLNA/UPnP, would love to see BluOS take the lead. Within my circle of friends, it has been easy to convince them all to use BluOS over the past few years.

Thank YOU for your feedback and being a fan.

The Desktop App should remember your preference but BluOS 4.0 was a complete re-write. I am having QA review this and have Product Development resolve in the future.
