    @ Seppi

If the drive is not locked is this a permissions issue on the drive or the server implementation in BluOS?

    Thanks Seppi.

This morning  while browsing my network I noticed a USB attached to my NAD. Server mode is a great new feature, I look forward to uncovering it's potential.

Glad you like Brian - as to whether or not the drive is locked depends on the file format of the drive... BluOS cannot write to NTFS or macOS...

It would be great to get to the bottom of this question of how to write to a USB drive that's in server mode. I agree that server mode is a great feature, however not being able to add additional files without removing the drive is inconvenient. The share shows up on the network so we should be able to write to it from a PC or Mac on the same network, yes?

I found this note on the server mode documentation page:

If you anticipate making frequent updates to your connected USB library, it is recommended to configure the library as a NAS drive and connect it to your BluOS Players as a Network Share. This setup will provide more flexibility and convenience for managing and accessing your library through the BluOS Players.

Why? I would love to keep my SSD drive permanently attached to the device and then just add new files to it over the network. We could have a setting that sets the re-indexing schedule or simply manually trigger re-indexing after adding the files.

Running a NAS has a few disadvantages:

    • noisier
    • more power consumed
    • more expensive (especially if SSDs are used to reduce noise)
    • more network traffic generated

Would be great to hear more on this from Bluesound.

    Thanks!
