Power Failures
AnsweredWe live in a small city in North Carolina and experience more power failures than we like... between nasty T-Storms and various creatures chewing on the power lines!
I have an NAD system as well as two Pulse 2i's, all hardwired. I have a Flex but it is not usually plugged in as I mostly use it with Bluetooth and my phone when traveling.
I have discovered a few issues: (1) Sirius always requires a re-login after an abrupt shutdown if I was using it, and (2) I may need to reload Tidal if it was playing. So far Deezer has always come back.
The latest was access to my NAS library failed during the last power failure. I have 170K tracks. Usually they take a half hour to reindex. Well after the last power failure, the tracks were listed, but Bluesound couldn't play them. I had to rebuild the indexes and all was good. However, rebuilding literally took 12 hours. I am now a little apprehensive about the next reindex.
The issues only seem to occur if the desktop or android apps are actually running any of my systems. If I am not streaming or using my NAS there are no issues.
I just thought I would share: sometimes it takes a little digging, but usually you can figure out what needs to be done.

Tough to deal with power failures. I suspect that most of the issues described are related to the sudden router and network shutdown/reboot. I suppose in your case it might be worthwhile investing in an back up battery power supply or UPS so if you're present when then power fails you'd have some time to shut devices down safely.

Hi Laguna Creek
I would also add that you should consider DHCP reservations in your router for your NAS, BluOS Players and other IoT devices that connect to your router. This way all your devices will reconnect at the same address. This may be why your NAS index did not work until the reindex because your NAS's network address moved and BluOS couldn't find it.
Your network router documentation can help here...

In this particular case, I don't believe this was the case. Even under DHCP the NAS has always been at the same address. That being said, that is a good idea, so I did reserve the addresses that each of my players and the NAS is on.
I also just kicked off a reindex (fingers crossed) and it appears to be running at speed again... actually 178K songs processed while I was coming up with this response!
While a UPS is a good idea, a reboot of the network is essentially turning off the power. I suspect the real issue is when we get the power "flickers", where it goes out, comes back on, and then off again AND one of my players is streaming from the library. Now that I use Tidal/Deezer, this has happened only once in the years since I bought my NAD. Thanks for the thoughts!

Well the indexes rebuild/reindex quickly again; but, even with a rebuild, the artwork has now disappeared. I did a send support request on my Pulse 2i where I did the full rebuild. Fortunately I mostly use my Library for archival purposes. However my Classical and Surf Music collection has more specialized titles not available on Tidal or Deezer. And while I miss the album covers... the music is still there and does not depend on the twonky rebuild Bose requires on the NAS.
BUT it would be nice if (a) I can get the artwork back or (b) I could change the display on the desktop controller to a list mode?
I will update this if this issue gets resolved.

This was solved, so it shouldn't be marked as unresolved. https://support1.bluesound.com/hc/en-us/requests/361674

Einstein did not have a computer, nor deal with an OS. Of course, while it appears you are doing the same thing, you actually are not.
Without unplugging/hard reset, but disconnecting the Library, reconnecting and rebuilding the index on each of my Blue systems the covers are back. I suspect the corruption was on the last device I did this on (isn't it always).
I did change the share to a relative address and all devices and the NAS have DHCP addresses, so hopefully this takes care of the issue permanently.
FYI I just triggered a reindex for some new music I added and no problems. It reindexed quickly and the album covers are all still appearing.
Given all the variables, it is pretty amazing how well this all works.

Aw shucks and thank you - I will also let Chris (the SCM assigned to your case) of your kind words.
