Having the one usb , how do l setup an external dac while keeping usb for my hi res hard drive on the blue sound node

  Alain is correct and a NAS (your Router may even help here) is the best way, answering your question directly… sorry but you cannot use the USB for both an external DAC and hard drive simultaneously. Using the Optical or Coaxial output is the alternative option.
