If you obtain an active sub (i.e. self powered), you can run the SUBW OUT from the back of the NODE to that subwoofer, and then in the BluOS app under Settings > Player > Audio > Subwoofer, set this to On and adjust the crossover where preferred (you could technically leave the Subwoofer switch on the NODE off and still get audio out of the SUBW OUT port; if you do that, no high pass filter will be applied to the main rca outs. Choose which ever fits your fancy).

This would work with any of the content streaming out of the NODE - CD, TIDAL, etc - but a high pass filter can only be applied to the Analog Output of the NODE (which, as I'm assuming your current loudspeakers take a line level RCA, should be good to go).

tl;dr run a cable from the NODE to the subwoofer and you're good to go.

What I do not understand...the node connects to the Hifi as an „Input“. How does the node get the signal from the hifi/cd Player. The CD player Feeds into the pre/amp of the hifi....?

You will need to connect the CD player to the Node’s input.

If you have several sources connect to your amp and your amp has a tape loop you would send the audio out of your amp, into the Node and back… a bit messy.

An alternative is a speaker to line  level “gadget” but these present stereo which your sub may or not accept, then you are into a restive mix 😁

Thank you, so my understanding is that the subwoofer out on the node does not really make sense, when connecting it to a high quality stereo/hifi ;-(.

I would add value to it by using the node as a streamer and would need to look for another solution to add subwoofer to the stereo directly. I guess the pulse sub would also not work in the context...maybe the "old" duo?

The sub out on the Node works well for me as part of my hifi.

I have all my CDs loaded onto a Brennan B2, which connects optically into my Node 2i. This allows me to use the Node as an external DAC for the B2 and then send the output from both sources to the hifi using the Node RCA analogue output. I connect an active sub to the Node and also take a coaxial digital output from the Node to a headphone amplifier.

You can do the same if you can connect your CD player output to a Node input. The sub out will then pick up both the CD and Node audio and the analogue out will feed both to your amp and main speakers.

I guess it is worth a try...I just hesitate to detach the high quality CD player from the Interrupting the direct connections between the high fidelity components (even though aged ;-) and loop thebcd player through the node instead !?
I guess it may be worth a try...

Any recommendations on the subwoofer to be used...duo? pulse sun? Currently I have q-acoustic concept speakers attached to the powernode...sounds great but lacks punch for modern music ;-)

I have a great fondness for the Q-Acoustic speakers and the Concept really do shine. All of the Q’s do however need a lots of watts “up em” to make them sing and need to be pulled out into the room.

The obvious choice would be to get one of the Q subwoofers, get the CDs ripped and onto a network share, and finally unplugging the CD player.

If the CD player has an analogue output you are simply passing its signal through the Node to access the subwoofer option. As Sepppi says, alternatively you could rip your CDs to a network drive and play them through the Node that way. My preference was to load my CDs on something that looked and worked more like part of a traditional hifi system so I used the Brennan B2: a Bluesound Vault would be a similar option.

I hear you....I guess I have troubles to let go of my hifi....back then a quite expensive set of hifi with stunning sound....by now most of all lots of emotional value ;-)
