    Set the volume in preset.

    Additional Question:

Can anything be done about the fact that both CBC1 & CBC2 stream at about -15db?

I keep having to adjust the volume; per-URI volume settings would be nice...

PS: I notice that Tune-In is not a service that is at all receptive to user input. *sigh*

You mean set all of the other stations to -15db?

    Kind of a non-starter...

No. I mean customizing the volume for the top 10 stations that you often listen to.

This may be more of a TuneIn or CBC issue.

Bluesound crew (Seppi?, Sam?) your response would be much appreciated. I am sure I am not the only one affected by this. I dispensed with the radio tuner in my living room since I put in a Node 2i, as it gave me the stations I needed. Thanks in advance!

    Hi Henry

Nothing on the CBC Gem front - please continue to use TuneIn as a solution for this. As suggested a volume preset will resolve this...

Hi Tony, I am not sure how the volume preset can solve a missing stream issue. CBC Radio 2 Vancouver stream is missing from TuneIn. See top of thread please.

To be precise, it is there but it is empty, trying to play it gives an error. Hence the ask to incorporate CBC service into Bluesound.

    Hi Henry

Radiostations are not part of TIDAL, you will have to use TuneIn. Search CBU and CBC Tempo (Vancouver) will come up in TuneIn.

TuneIn is a third-party service - volume changes will depend on the station as much as will TuneIn.

    Hi Henry,

Try searching in Tune-In by frequency - I found radio 1 & 2 in Wankouver by searching for CBC 690 and CBC 105.7.

They are definitely in there somewhere; but the organization, searchability, categorization, and reliability in Tune-In are pathetic. And Tune-In does not seem open to feedback.

You can also create a custom URL preset but you do have to find the URL and "massage" it a bit before you can get it to work. Once you get it, you are good to go...

Ken, all radio stations i can find *except* CBC seem to stream at a very similar volume level. Turning down the volume level in *all* other presets, and re-normalizing all 11,000 songs in my library to -15db is a bit absurd.

I have an alarm set in the controller to turn on CBC to get the news at 6:00 every day (need those pandemic updates!), but quite often I miss it because they stream at such a low level (comparatively, at least).

Hi Tony, I know that radio stations are not part of Tidal, nor Bluesound (I made a typo above and said "Tidal" instead of "Bluesound", corrected now). There is however a free CBC streaming SERVICE per my original post, much like other streaming services with radio stations only focused on CBC content (Radio, Music, and Podcasts). It is called CBC Listen (in Sonos it is renamed to CBC Radio & Music because they excluded podcast content). That is a service that should be added to Bluesound, regardless of my problem, as it is much loved by Canadians. It is much richer than what is avaliable in TuneIn, and aggregates CBC content in one place.

Now for the good news regarding the issue that prompted my original post: the Radio 2 Vancouver stream (the official stream name is CBC Music Vancouver 105.7) came back! The error is gone, so I can only hope that this was a temporary issue in TuneIn (or CBC).

You should still add the CBC Listen streaming service to Bluesound, for reasons above, if only to keep competitive with (or in front of) the other platforms / products out there. Another good reason is that Lenbrook (i.e. Bluesound) is a Canadian company ;)

Hi Derek, can't you just set the alarm at a high volume?

  • Derek Stratton

Can't go higher than "full". On a node2, anyways...

I see.  So you are talking about that setting your amp right for CBC will be too high for all other non-CBC sources.  That's a real quandary.  I also experienced low volume for CBC but not to such drastic extent that can't be compensated in preset or alarm settings.

Exactly. Plus, they are leaving headroom on the table - which (in theory at least) lowers s/n ratio...

I guess I secretly hoped that someone at Bluesound - being a Canadian company -  knew someone who could a bug in the ear of one of the CBC techs, etc.

Oh well, as they say: "first world problem". I'm thinking that I have burned enough bandwidth on this already...

I would like to re-open this discussion, perhaps for different reasons though.  Recently we have found the CBC Radio feed from TuneIn to be terrible - frequent dropouts to the point we can't even listen to it. However, using our recently acquired Sonos ERA 100 with the 'CBC Radio & Music' source, the feed is flawless. Is there anyway to do the same (now) in BlueOS?
