Node 2i as pre amp - sound quality - MQA
AnsweredHi I am contemplating buying a Node 2i and wiring it directly to an NAD C268 amp. I am currently steaming Tidal now (HiFi) and wanted to know if I will still be able to stream MQA quality into when using the along/RCA connection to the amp? I have read conflicting views about using a pre amp/integrated amp with the Node 2i to achieve better sound vs a direct connection to an amp. Can you let me know if I can expect to have MQA quality and good sound without a pre amp/integrated amp? Will there be a drop off with out a pre amp?

Yes, you will get MQA from the analog outputs.
In theory, a pre-amp will only make it worse, with two sets of connections and additional electronics in the pre-amp. However, with only the Node, you can connect only one more component to your amp.
If you don't have the amp already, you may want to consider going with the Powernode for a very clean set-up.

I use that exact same set-up and am happy with the sound quality as well as the user friendliness. I use the 12V trigger to switch the C268, so only need the Bluesound app to control all (Tidal, streaming radio, own collection on NAS and optical in for TV). I did connect with a decent RCA cable and convinced myself that I do hear a difference.. :-)
