Make Bluesound device the Default Speaker for Google/Alexa
AnsweredI'm not sure if this has been posted before but a quick search didn't pull anything up so I'm posting it!
In case you are not familiar what setting the default speaker for Google/Alexa does is when you tell your smart speaker to play something instead of using the crappy (compared to Bluesound) smart speaker it will play on whatever you set at your Default Speaker, ideally your Bluesound device! This fills in the gaps in missing services *cough cough PANDORA* and also means voice control is much more seamless!
Yes I am aware the streaming quality will probably take a hit (not sure of the implantation so maybe not?) and you can already do this by connecting your Bluesound via bluetooth! EXCEPT for the bluetooth connection to work the devices have to be in very close proximity... I do custom AV install and all of my high end clients want voice control which is spotty at best BUT what does work is for them to select the audio source for the room then use voice to control what they are listening to, CLIENTS LOVE THIS! Unfortunately the audio source feeding the whole house system is always in a rack in the mechanical room so bluetooth is not an option meaning we HAVE to use something that can be set as the default speaker IE SONOS who's integration with Crestion, RTI, Elan, etc. is garbage!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add the Default Speaker option to Bluesound so all us custom integrators can stop selling SONOS to our residential customers! We all HATE SONOS but it's what integrates with the smart speakers so we are stuck! I'm also pretty sure non-integators will appreciate that they can use their Bluesound devices to play their music instead or their smart speaker!
P.S. On the commercial side if you can add Commercial Pandora no one will EVER sell another MOOD:player and you will own the commercial space!

You could change the default speaker in BluVoice (helps for when Alexa does not understand the room name; she will send the command to the default speaker just in case) with the following command:
Alexa, ask BluVoice to set the default player to the Lounge/Theater
Though I believe this is different from what you have mentioned. I will pass both your requests (technically 3 I suppose if Commercial and Consumer Pandora are separate) to our BluOS Dev lab for future consideration.
Thank you for the feedback!

+1 to this suggestion. Would vastly improve useability of the bluos ecosystem

Any updates on this request? I just moved from Sonos and the rest of my family cannot understand why they can no longer just ask Alexa to play music.
