Support for NFS shares, not just SMB
AnsweredHi,
I would like to request enhancing the firmware to support NFS shares, besides SMB.
I'm not suggesting it should support both at once as that may cause conflicts, but at least have the possibility to choose between the preferred one from the BlueOS App.
NFS shares are quite common and many players support them. I already have one set up for my Oppo 203 and would like to be able to see the same shares on the BlueOS App in order to play the files on my M17 V2i.
It's extremely convenient and fast to navigate files through a NFS share. It would also help a lot people who want to connect their processor directly to their PC via Ethernet for 24/192 playback.
Please don't tell me to connect the Ethernet cable to my router as someone from the support team has advised me... We don't all have all equipment (router & processor) in the same room and we definitely not all want to run cables through our house...

NFS won't allow you to do that and you still won't be able to control the Player as you do require a network connection. If you cannot maintain a stable wireless connection in your area or cannot run a cable, consider a Powerline Adapter.

I will have to disagree with that.
After some research, I have managed to create the connection I require... the one which nobody from the support team suggested to me.
My setup is as follows: Fiber optic cable >> Router >> Ethernet cable >> Windows PC >> Ethernet cable >> NAD processor
I have 2 ethernet RJ45 ports on my PC: one incoming cable from the router, one outgoing to the NAD processor.
On my Windows PC I have set in Network and Sharing Center for TCP/IPv4 to obtain IP & DNS automatically for both the local area networks I have.
On the LAN facilitating internet access from the router I have enabled ICS, making it act as a DHCP server and assigning automatic IP addresses to any devices linked to it.
And that's exactly what it did for the NAD... it assigned an IP address, provided it with access to internet and the BluOS Windows app nicely recognizes the processor.
So if it worked like this, with an SMB share set up, it will work with a NFS share as well. That way I won't have to stay with both active. NFS is anyway easier and cleaner to set up.
If you guys have any interest in implementing NFS, of course...

Glad to hear you solved your network issue by using your PC as a switch - not many PCs have two ethernet ports.
We are very aware of NFS but actually abandoned it very early due to a number of security issues and its inability to work in macOS environments natively. Thanks for the feedback though

Well, mine doesn't have 2 ethernet ports either. But there are many USB3 to RJ45 adapters out there and you can add as many as your motherboard's unassigned USB ports :) Easy and cost efficient way to expand.
Alright, I was not aware of the NFS' inability to work in macOS environments natively, or of its security issues. I understand now why it was not implemented.
Not a showstopper, though. I'm fairly happy with the desktop app, and I'm really glad you have one. It was one of the key points why I put the M17 on top of my list.
Thanks for shedding light on things!
