A switch is a switch, so I'm rather impressed that you can hear a noticeable improvement considering the large buffer in your Node.

However, there are some settings you should adjust to make it work without "flaws".
    Disable IGMP snooping if present.
    Enable Multicast or mDNS.

Never say never Bjorn. There are two camps when it comes to ethernet switches - those who have tried audiophile ones like the SIlent Angel, EtherRegen, 8switch, and those who say they are snake oil but have not tried them. I have spoken to a number of hi fi retailers who sell these switches and they tell me that less than 1% of customers buy one and then return it. Yes this could be placebo I suppose, but personally, I am convinced by a v b tests I have made, placebo effect or not, mine is a keeper.

Those settings you mention - are they BluOS settings or router settings?

Settings should be in your switch as long it's a "managed switch".
If it's an "unmanaged" switch, it might be blocking multicast and mDNS making it more or less "useless" in your case if you don't have those settings in your router.

As far as I am aware, all the popular "audiophile" ethernet switches are unmanaged Bjorn, as is my 8switch. If it was blocking multicast and mDNS presumably I would have issues with my Node 2i all the time ?

As long as your Node is visible and you are able to play, multicast is working/not blocked, so your issue is most likely not a multicast issue. It could be related to flow control not working as it should because of the large buffer in the Node.
If you had a switch before you installed your EE8switch, have your tried cascading "old switch -> new switch".

things actually seem to be behaving today so maybe I had a router or other issue yesterday that was not connected to the fact I just installed this ethernet switch. Will report back after further testing. Thanks very much for contributing Bjorn
