Vault 2i hard drive replacement

I've had my Vault 2i for a little over three years, and it recently began to behave oddly in that it would randomly reboot, freeze up or music would skip. The issue graduly got worse and worse to the point where it was unuseable. Unfortunately, as it was out of warranty a repair was going to cost me hundreds which I was not happy about as this was over half the cost of a new unit. I thought I would have a go are replacing the drive myself with a 2TB SSD. I was able to clone the failing drive using Macrium Reflect to the new SSD. I bought a 3.5mm - 2.5mm caddy for the SSD, but this didn't really work out as the original hard drive brackets couldn't be attached to to it, so I improvised with thick 3M stick pads which I used to mount the drive to the bottom of the case. Once re-assembled I had to re-index the library. Once that completed the Vault was back to full functionalility with the added benefit that is it now much faster than it was previously (and quieter). So despite what people are often told, this can be done, and if your unit is out of warranty it is worth considering if you don't want to pay hundreds of $$$ for a repair.

Hi, I have the same issue. What drive did you use ? I use iMacs, how do I clone the drive of the Vault2i to a new SSD?

I'm afraid I'm not a Mac user so I'm not sure what you could use to clone a drive using a Mac. Maybe someone else can jump in and offer some advice on that question.
The drive I used was a Samsung 870 QVO 2TB, but I expect most 2TB drives would be suitable. I did post some info on the Bluesound Reddit on how to dismantle the unit which may be useful.
