IR Learning Unsuccessful for Node

I have Apple and NAD remotes. Both work with a Pulse M. But I can't get the latest Node to register it. Tried using both desktop controller and iOS apps. When pressing remote buttons, the Node's blue LED does not blink. I've tried a cold reboot but no luck. Is there a quick way to determine if the IR sensor is faulty or the player itself has been misconfigured?
