Low volume gain

Hi Ronnie
As a passive speaker, the Bluesound VOLUME is dependent on either the source content or the volume of your amplifier. If using an external amp as the volume control, consider fixed output in the volume settings. Feel free to select Help, Send Support Request in the BluOS App so our Support Crew can help make recommendations based on your unique environment.

Hello. I am having a similar problem as Ronnie posted. I spoke with someone at Bluesound today, April 26, 2024, and was given the same answer Tony W provided. Using the Node through my Marantz SR6014 AV Receiver and Bowers & Wilkins 606 speakers, the volume from the Node is considerably lower than all other sources from the Marantz which include TV, streaming sources such as Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime, a DVD player. Only the Node requires raising the volume on the Marantz considerably than the other sources. I have tried using the fixed output as well as the variable volume slider which is below the fixed option in the audio setup menu. But, in the variable output, the slider only allows the button to go to -30db, which is what I suspect is the level of lower gain the Node is sending to the Marantz receiver. Is there a solution to this? I do not believe this is related to my other equipment. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Same Marantz amp as Andy, same issue. Have to crank it to get any volume comparable to CD player and other sources. I'm using Audio Out on the node into the Coaxial input on the amp. Could that be the issue?

Just received a Node Icon. It’s output is at least 5 db or more, lower, than other sources… weird 🤔
26 Jan 2025: I returned my Icon. BluSound was prompt w/ my refund. I’m now thinking to try Lumin or Inuous b/c all affordable streamers (Eversolo) have been disappointing so far. My ibasso dx 320 DAP is my external streamer until then.

Yes, my experience is as well with my Node Icon, I have to set my volume relative wide open, in comparison with other sources to my amp.
I use fixed volume, with output over analogue/XLR, tone-controle disabled1 -
Since first posting in April of 2024 the issue has continued. I changed AVR to a Marantz SR8015 and the same exact issue continues. As a reference, the volume on the Marantz for TV, Apps such as YouTube, Netflix, etc., or playing a DVD is about 48. When playing through the Bluesound the volume is at a minimum of 60 and often considerably higher. Is this issue being worked on? Does anyone care? I hope this can be resolved soon. Thank you.

I picked up the Icon today. It's very nice sounding. But the output volume is simply too low on many recordings (I never had this issue with my Node 2021). This needs to be acknowledged and addressed ASAP. It would be a shame for this otherwise great bit of kit to start pulling bad reviews over something so easy to fix.

Could this be a manufacturing problem, perhaps with a component that has the wrong value?

I am also having the same issues, does anyone know how to fix it?????

I have the same problem with my Bluesound Node X relative to other sources. Any way to increase the RCA output gain on the Node X?

Based off what I can find, The NODE and NODE ICON output Live Level 2.2 Vrms over unbalanced RCA. Double that for balanced XLR on the NODE ICON. You can not use connectors (RCA to XLR) and you will not be able to control any volume from your Node Streamer.

Same volume drop issue with Node Icon, not to mention inability to stream over 16/44 quality without drop outs. Surprised Blusound Support hasn’t commented here. I think my Icon is going back to the dealer, disappointing.

My low gain issue was completely solved by disabling the smart replay feature... I've had nothing but good times with my Node Icon since

@Chad... I had issues like this with my old Node 2021. The cause ended up being related to HDMI within the system.

Same issue here. I'm using Node Icon with Piega 701 active speakers using RCA connection. I'm often using 90 plus volume and would like the vol to go to around 110-120 to be comfortable with range :(

Hi Tony W., (I own the N132) as per another ticket on the same topic. Tidal and Spotify volumes are great. I do however wish there was an Optical and HDMI ARC per output volume gain to normalize the volumes between the streaming services and the digital outs. The presets are not a proper solution in my opinion, as it was suggested in some other tickets.

I experience the exact same thing. I have the Node X and was surprised about how much lower the output level is compared to using e.g. a Sonos Connect as the music streamer.
