Moving Playlist from One Vault 2i to Another Vault 2I
AnsweredAs the title says i am trying to replicate a playlist on my Vault 2i onto a different Vault 2i that I will be using in my second home. I copied all the music over from the main Vault 2i.
When both Vaults are on the same networks the playlists show up and work on the new Vault 2i, which should be expected.
Steps I have taken but have failed.
- Backed up playlist on thumb drive from Main Vault 2i and restored on to the Second Vault 2i playlists show up but no tracks are present when you select the playlist.
- When both vaults are on the same network, I took a fresh thumb drive and backed up the playlist that appeared on the New Vault 2i and restored onto itself. This sort of worked, the album art was not correct on most of the playlists, but the music was there.
- Moved the New Vault 2i onto a different Vlan, a replicated Vlan that the system will go on in the new house, reindexed the library, and the playlist came up, but with no tracks.
I have 19 Playlists with thousands of songs that I do not want to have to recreate manually. Why is this so difficult? What if my original disc vault went out and I bought a new one, does this mean I cannot restore my playlists backed up to a thumb drive on my new vault? That is essentially what I want to do.
I appreciate any POSITIVE, FIRSTHAND knowledge help, on how to overcome this issue.
Thank You!

Hi GoGo
When creating playlists, the file location is referenced in the playlist file stored on your VAULT. Since there is a possibility for you to put two VAULTs on the same network, each VAULT has a unique identifier in the file path to ensure you are going to the right place.
When you copied the playlists to VAULT 2 from VAULT 1, the playlist is looking for the file on VAULT 1, which is not on the same network.
Since Playlist files must be copied to all players on your network for ease of use, playlists are packaged in a single BluOS Proprietary file so cannot be opened and edited on the USB backup to correct that path to VAULT 2.
Unfortunately, because of that, there is no way to backup the playlists on one VAULT network, and restore them on a different network that has a different VAULT even if both VAULTs have identical content. As a result, you will have to recreate the playlists in your secondary home.
I wish I had a better answer for you than that.

Hi Tony,
That's what I thought. Now for my little rant. WHY? WHY are they so proprietary that your hardware cannot read their own file? That's the modern-day version not being able to share a word doc created on one computer with another.
On my Kaleidescape system, which is far more technical than Bluesound, I can share playlists and scripts with other owners. My Roon system, I can back up and restore to another Roon ANY Roon system, playlists and all. Why is this so difficult with Bluesound?
You stated,
Since Playlist files must be copied to all players on your network for ease of use, playlists are packaged in a single BluOS Proprietary file so cannot be opened and edited on the USB backup to correct that path to VAULT 2.
I am sure you can come up with a way to move playlists across the Bluesound ecosystem otherwise this is really a closed system unto itself. There needs to be a way to move/replicate playlists to other Bluesound players moving forward. Losing a Bluesound player and having to buy another one is a pain. But to realize that the playlists you have curated over the years are NOT coming back is beyond frustrating especially when you have a Bluesound back up.
Please don't take my frustration as anger. It's just frustration.
GGD!

Hi GoGo
I did have a conversation with our Product Development Team about this while confirming my suspicions with them suggesting you would likely be frustrated with this response, They are aware of it come future changes.
