Tone control impact on POWERNODE (N330)

Hi, first post everyone. Delighted with my POWERNODE - I have it hooked up with a pair of Kef LS50meta speakers and a REL tx5 subwoofer. I have noticed an impact on the sound profile when I turn the tone control on (with treble and bass settings both set to zero) vs off. I am aware of a slight volume reduction to allow headroom for equalisation - I am not discussing that. What I have noticed is that the sound profile seems more forward and richer. To my ears it sounds better. Has anyone noticed this and any thoughts on why? (I can only think this is due to the signal path difference when using tone controls). I also wonder what Bluesound advice is the optimal setting for an even balanced general sound (is tone control off or on (with settings at zero). I wonder if it is set up to be optimised with tone control set to on by default? Many thanks for any thoughts or similar experiences.

  I guess if you want neutral sound you want to turn everything off

  I have found that the sound is clearer with tone “on” and 0 db. No drop in volume.. might even be a db louder when On

  Interesting, I shall try that too and see if I can hear a difference.

  At low volumes to give the sound more depth, I tend to set the bass at 4 and treble at 2 which works for me. And then when I want to blast it out I go back to the default settings as this seems to unleash the vocals. If I keep the unit set at 4 & 2 there's a slight tendency for the vocals and mid ranges to sound like they are being generated from behind a curtain. There's just more transparency and a better sound stage at high volumes when using the default settings.
