BluOS Controller (Windows) 3.20.3: Library/Genres/Show all (Albums) doesn't work

    Greetings. Wanted to put a finer point on the special characters and behaviors. It appears to come down to naming of the folders on the server. In my case, the library is organized as Genre>Artist>Album. It seems if there’s special character in any part of that path, the individual tracks at the end of it won’t play as a direct click. So “R&B” renders all tracks in that path unplayable. In my Choral directory there is an album with special characters, like a semicolon or a dash. No tracks are accessible, but tracks of other albums in the genre play just fine. If I rename the album directory without the characters… success!

    Maybe checking things along those lines will get to the root cause (pun probably intended).

    And now I'm just getting cut and paste responses from them on the help ticket I submitted for this.  Nobody reached out to figure out what the issue really is and how the software is behaving in the field. They pretty clearly don't want to put any effort into fixing this.

    Updated BluOS to 3.20.25 and Windows App to 3.20.5.

    Still not fixed.

    Not surprised.  Doesn't work for me either.

    We are aware and I have asked our team to pause the rollout of App 3.20.5 for Windows and macOS.

    We apologise for the inconvenience.

    How do you pause a rollout?  You are still offering 3.20.5 as the only download on your website.

    Hi Chris

    The current version on our site is still numbered 3.20.5 but has a newer build number. It has been updated as of 7:00 am ET (12:00 GMT) this morning, March 1st. Sorry for the confusion and the inconvenience.

    Well that is not how revision numbering is supposed to work, but this version does seem to work so far.  The genres with spaces function the same way as the single word genres, and it doesn't seem as unbearably slow as it was before.

    Looks like it's fixed.

    One more bug to fix regarding "Genre";

    The genre "Unknown" has not been working since Windows App 3.14.0

    BluOS Controller 3.20.5 Build 1934 still does not like folder paths that have special characters (e.g. "R&B"). Single track selections for all files in that path will not work though selecting "Play All" does. Even if tracks are accessed with Play All, selecting a single track in the album will fail. This is the case whether the genre has it (all files in that path will not play single track selections; an album has it (e.g. Leonin, Perotin: Sacred Music from Notre-Dame Cathedral); or track (e.g. Did You Come?). Essentially, wherever the special character is in the file path, tracks at the end of it will not play as a single selection.

    Additionally, search fields are unable to retrieve searches that include special characters (e.g. "I Can't Tell You Why" returns no found tracks, but "I Can" returns "I Can't Tell You Why" among other results that include "I Can". Other special characters that seem to fail are "-", ".", ";", "$" and several others.

    Hi-Res

    I have no issues with folder paths with special characters.
    A few file path examples:
    X:\M-O\Michael Bormann\20th Century Boys - 2004 - !Beware Of The Rex!
    X:\A-C\Aimee Mann\2008 - @#%&! Smilers - {FLAC}
    X:\J-L\Kix\1995 - Show Busine$$ - {FLAC}
    X:\D-F\Epica\Live\2021 - Ωmega Alive (HD 2448) - {FLAC}\
    Y:\A-C\Aura (RU)\2013 - Вдохновение - {FLAC}
    X:\P-R\Ravenous E.H\2021 - 一瞬千撃 (Single)

    Edit: Search function looks like it's broken

    Very interesting, Bjørn. Those file paths/names would seem to cause a track to not play on my server. And to be clear, I can get them to play by selecting Play All in a given album, and the Previous/Pause/Next buttons work for cycling through them. But if I directly click a track in the affected path, the track won't play. I'm running Win10 v21H2.

    Y:\A-C\Aura (RU)\2013

    As an experiment, can you go to your directory, and rename folder A-C to A&C, reindex, and see if single track selections at the end of new path still work?

    I stand corrected:
    Play All is working, but not individual songs.
    Using the "3 dots", play now is working.
    Tested on Android and no issues there.
    After testing backwards, my findings are; latest working Windows controller is 3.18.4.

    Confirmed, Bjørn, “three dots”>Play now does indeed work on tracks I cannot select with a click.

    Also was able to reinstall 3.18.4 and not only does single track selection work, so do searches that include special characters. All of the search argument examples above now return proper results.

    This provides excellent information for support team’s investigation if this thread is still being monitored. Thanks for remaining engaged and contributing.
