It would be a nice addition to integrate the Microsoft Surface Dial into the volume control, especially important for the Powernode Edge, as some users are dissatisfied with the volume control.

P.S. There are manufacturers that have already integrated their power amplifiers with the Microsoft Surface Dial.

I cannot speak for other manufacturers but I can say this. Since the BluOS Controller itself is merely a remote control and does no audio processing, meaning no audio is actually coming from your Windows Surface, it is generally frowned upon by various OS regulators to do this.
I cannot speak for Microsoft, but for example, our Product Development team has confirmed in Google's case they do not like it and Apple will stop the release of your App if your App itself does not actually generate audio on the handheld device. I will however pass the feedback along.

You may or not be aware there is a very nicely made Bluesound remote control called the RC1, I have a few and they work really well and they have many functions.
