For the moment I can do without extra connections so will skip the Dynaudio Connect, it's another part in the audio chain. What type of toslink cable are you using? My current one is too short. Need to be about 3 meters long.

Some more experiments... and finaly I'm satisfied with the sound quality when using toslink. I still have the Dynaudio Connect in between, but with the settings Fixed Audio output "on", MQA external DAQ "on" and Audio clock trimming "off" it is now acceptable.

Can anyone have some clues regarding the optical toslink output sound quality between the 'old' node 2 and the new node 2i, or even the 'old' vault 2 and the new one. Maybe also interesting is the comparison between toslink output of a vault and a node - if there is any - as the vault does not have wifi onboard...

I say this because I currently don't have a Bluesound streamer and have to go to the optical route and am very tempted to get the 'old' Vault 2 instead of the new Node 2i.

There were no significant changes between the two. Many Golden Ears listeners suggest a sonic improvement on the NODE 2i compared to the NODE 2. This was unintended but can be explained by some minor tweaks and improvements to the electronic path on the main new media board to accommodate newer and additional wireless chipsets.

    Let your ears decide...

"I am finding I like the Bluesound approach because everything is in one box, supported by one organization, and I don't have to worry about getting things to "talk to each other"."

Thanks Mark - that's exactly our intended approach...

"How can data sent to the external DAC be bit perfect when it has been recalculated by the volume setting?"

It's not quite recalculated - as the DAC is bypassed which handles much of the processing. Rest assured what you are getting is what is intended as the audio itself is not altered.
