    Hi Craig

We are very excited about our partnership with Apple Music. Unfortunately we cannot provide further insight or time lines just yet, however; please stay tuned for more great announcements.

    Hi Craig

I hope AirPlay 2 is not the only reason why you are considering outstanding multiroom performance though I do understand it being an influencing piece of the decision. Don't forget to Like us on Facebook /Bluesound.HiFi or follow us on Twitter @BluesoundHiFi for announcements as they become available.

    Hi,

Your answer is a little bit "strange" ...

Libratone confirmed that a update of the firmware will be available to make some device compatible with the future AirPlay2 ... Libratone could give more information about this compatibility but not Bluesound ?

So, if I could not confirm that a firware update will be available it's clearly because this firmware update will not be available for the actual pulse 2, Node 2, ...

I hope some good news ...

    Hi Tony,

any updates on that ? BTW "outstanding multi room performance" The SW did not got any improvements (Beside MQA) in the last year and is still a closed system for selling HW... This was outstanding 2yrs ago.

Don't get me wrong i have an NADC390DD + bluesound card.

  • Hi All

We are continuing to work with Apple to release AirPlay 2 on BluOS. We here at Bluesound generally hesitate when it comes to publishing release dates until we are ready. This does not mean it is not a priority for both organisations as it truly is.

Thanks for your continued patience and for #LivingHiFi.

As the release of Airplay 2 comes closer (it's in public beta now as well), I have another question about Bluesound's integration:

Will Apple Music play directly from Apple's server's or will it be peer to peer only-  e.g. If I ask my iPhone to play music on the kitchen flex, will my phone have stay on or will the Bluesound speakers take over and stream directly from Apple?

    Thanks!

btw I have multiple Bluesound players and very happy, so no need to sell me on it ;)

    Airplay 2

Allows speakers to perform in a multi-room audio synchronized system or zoned audio.   Airplay 2 support will also give the speaker the ability to be controlled via Apple's HomeKit and become part of HomeKit scenes.

Airplay 2 differs from the original Airplay in a few key areas.   The firstgen Airplay sent ALAC audio in realtime with very minimal buffering.   The new Airplay 2 protocol sends much faster than realtime and systems must be able to buffer a significant amount of audio (think minutes) to prevent network dropouts from causing problems.

    Apple Music

Last year at WWDC Apple announced a very important new API named MusicKit.   There's a reason why Sonos was the only 3rd party with AM support. Consider it a long Beta test of most likely the underlaying structure of MusicKit.   What MusicKit does is creates a secure method for accessing Encrypted Apple Music as well as authenticating the user and offering setup of Apple Music for new users.   This is key because as a 3rd party developer you know have an Apple blessed way to easily integrate Apple Music into your app.

Once iOS 11.4 hits I suspect it won't be too long before you see many developers announcing Airplay 2 support and adding MusicKit/Apple Music support to their apps.  MusicKit is already in a couple of apps in the app store.  It's ready
