The Optical output will send a null signal when in stand-by. Please check your cable, also check your DAC documentation to ensure power saving settings are set there too. The third option is to consider a trigger cable between your NODE and DAC.

One year ago you said that Bluesound were aware of this issue and working on a solution:

    https://support1.bluesound.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/4419841903383-Node-Gen-3-N130-digital-outputs-never-sleep-

It seems that no solution is forthcoming. A 12 volt trigger would switch on an Amp but it would not switch it to the correct input.

Not exactly the same problem and there have been a number of BluOS software fixes. Please try the steps I suggested.

If problems persist after those steps, please feel free to reach out to our Support Crew by selecting Help, Send Support Request in the BluOS App so we may review the log file.

How is this issue different? There may have been a number of software updates but none of them have solved this problem. Anyway, I have just checked on the Amazon website and I have until the end of January to return the Node, and that is what I will be doing. There are numerous issues (long running sagas) that have been raised here that never seem to reach a conclusion:

    1. Digital outputs remaining on in standby

    2. Node being muted when putting Sony TVs in standby (I have a Sony TV)

    3. BBC Sounds (I listen to the BBC and TuneIn are useless)

    4. Chromecast

Who decided that this problem has been answered? Surely, that should be decided by the person who raises the issue.

This problem is very annoying since it prevents my loudspeakers from going to sleep. It is very bad that you don't take this problem more seriously.

I´m waiting for a fix as well.

In fact it seems to be possible, because if you use the HDMI Input with your TV, and you turn your TV off, after 1 minute or so the Node goes into Standby and turns off the optical output!!!
So obviously its possible, but they dont want to make THIS Standby mode the normal Standby mode. It cant be so difficult?! It the biggest issue i have with the node, and as you can see its possible, but just with TV Input. I dont get it....

    Hi Christopher

See my answers here on your duplicate post; https://support1.bluesound.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/11874311008535/comments/11874714130071

As answered above, the error is happening upstream so there is nothing to fix here because the NODE is not going into stand by because the device it is attached to is telling it to NOT go into stand by.

Sigh, you promised a year ago that this was being worked on, but it is still not fixed and you clearly still don't understand the problem.

I followed your suggestion and created a support ticket for this issue. First they responded by telling me how they thought it worked; that the device would enter standby after 15 minutes. Then they actually tested it:

"After speaking with our engineering team regarding your specific issue they have been able to replicate it here in our labs.
The Optical Out in Node is always active by design even in standby mode, in other words, the digital out will never sleep in the Bluesound Node."

(By the way, I use the digital RCA output, but the same applies.)

The statement from support above is however not fully correct. As Christopher mentioned, the Node actually disables the digital outputs when the HDMI input is used and the TV is turned off by the TV remote.

Using Qobuz and pressing pause never disables the digital outputs. I would suggest that you disable both the digital outputs directly on pause. There is no reason to have them on when nothing is playing.

Please make this problem a top priority since it is very annoying for your customers, and it consumes unnecessary energy by keeping active speakers and amplifiers on.

    Hi @Tony W !

One more time: The TV is not the problem. Like i said many times, connected via HDMI and turning the TV off, the Node turns off as well and goes into a proper standby mode. In this HDMI / TV scenario, the Node turns of Toslink LED, you can see it! So, thats good, ok?!

That tells us: The Node is cappable of going into a standby mode that turns off the optical and digital outputs.

Now the question you never answer:

WHY is it not possible to have the same standby mode when you leave your Node in pause for 15 mins? Why is it not turning off the Toslink LED after 15 mins, or other digital outputs? Why just when you use the HDMI connection and the TV remote to turn the TV off?

Am i to stupid to explain it in english?

Thank you! Otherwise its a great product, but you must fix it!

This most annoying problem is still not fixed. How about listening to your customers and fixing it or at least give us a standby button so that we can turn off the digital output ourselves.

I was in contact with them and we talked about that topic, many mails. I don’t know but on the end they didn’t understand what’s going on, it is basically a very simple thing to understand. Well, maybe in the future, that would be nice.

Well, I created a support ticked and they investigated and were able to recreate this problem so it is known. It just needs to be fixed. The best solution would be to simply turn off the digital output if nothing is playing.

Oh, cool! They couldn’t recreate on my side.
And when I said, my hdmi input turns off the optical output when I turn off the tv, they were completely confused. I said hundred times: See, it works! He doesn’t it work when I’m not using hdmi and nothing is playing, why is your „standby“ not turning off optical out?
But ok maybe we are lucky with your feedback.

A very last time, maybe you finally understand the problem and dont answer random stuff like you did before:

Connecting a TV with HDMI, and turning that TV off will make the Node go into some kind of mode that turns off the optical output, lets call it "Standby". This is GOOD !

Now forget the TV, second scenario:
I play music on spotify, press pause (on the Node or App, doesnt matter). You claim, the Node goes into standby after 15 minutes.
I dont see any changes in power consumption (measured it), warmth or the optical output. It is on and stays on forever.

So here is the prove, the Node is capable of turning that damn TOSLINK off.
But why cant the Node do the same when going into "Standby" mode after 15 Minutes?

Will you EVER fix that, i cant imagine its impossible, because we can see, it is possible!!

I am also extremely frustrated by this. I even bought the remote, but it also won't turn the darn thing off. I have discovered that there is a deep sleep if you long press the play button on the unit, but then the Node wont show up in the app anymore. Please fix this standby issue ASAP or why not give us the option to turn the device off and still be visible in the app?

Long press means Vacation Mode, that basically turns off the device.

But they advertised an automatic STANDBY mode and its not existing.
